On Monday, Sierra Kings Health Care District proudly awarded $5,000 emergency grants to both KC Cares Food Pantry (KCUSD) and La Canasta Food Pantry (PUSD) to support families facing food insecurity during this high-need season.

With rising food costs and delays in SNAP benefits, these pantries are serving more families than ever.

Food insecurity is rising in Reedley and Parlier, and our local food pantries are feeling the strain. With higher prices, delays in SNAP benefits, and the busy holiday season, both KC Cares Food Pantry and La Canasta Food Pantry are running dangerously low on food during the time families need support the most.

To help meet this urgent need, Sierra Kings Health Care District has awarded two emergency grants of $5,000 each to the largest food distribution centers in our area.

Join us on Monday, December 1, as we visit both locations to present the checks and highlight the important work these pantries do for local families.

Here are some tips to GET ACTIVE! even during the shorter daylight hours:

-Take short indoor movement breaks

-Try yoga or stretching at home

-Walk during daylight hours whenever possible

This Diabetes Awareness Month, we took a closer look our community's eating habits. Less than 4% of local residents consume the recommended 5+ servings of fresh fruits and vegetables daily. The overwhelming reason? COST!

Sierra Kings Health Care District is actively working to connect residents with programs and resources that make healthy, affordable food accessible to everyone. Adequate nutrition is a powerful tool against Type 2 Diabetes.
