🚨 New moms, this is important. 🚨

Did you know that pregnancy-related complications can happen after you leave the hospital?

That’s why AWHONN created the Post-Birth Warning Signs Bracelet — a simple, powerful reminder that could help save lives. ❤️

RAMC Birth Center encourages postpartum moms to wear the Post-Birth Alert Bracelet to help ensure EMS, ED, and primary care teams know that you recently gave birth—so critical decisions happen faster. This helps recognize urgent symptoms like:
🔴 Heavy bleeding
🔴 Severe headache
🔴 Chest pain or trouble breathing
🔴 Swelling, redness, or pain in legs
🔴 Feeling like something just isn’t right

If you experience any of these, call your healthcare provider, call 911, or go to the ER immediately. Trust your instincts.

Every mom deserves to feel safe, supported, and informed after birth.

Let’s spread awareness and protect moms. 💕
Share this with a new or expecting mom today.

Reedsburg Area Medical Center Birth Center was thrilled to received another donation of books from the Reedsburg Education Association (REA). REA has been providing our Birth Center newborns with books for more than 25 years.

RAMC and REA encourage parents to read to their newborn as soon as they go home from the hospital.

Thank you to REA for your continued support and investment in a lifetime of learning!

Growing up with a sibling often means sharing life’s biggest moments. For brothers Dalton and Luke Rathman, that now includes welcoming their baby boys just days apart at the RAMC Birth Center.

Dalton and Regalle Rathman welcomed their second child, Bodhi Dean Rathman, on March 7 at 2:14 p.m. Reflecting on their experience, Regalle shared, “After delivering at another hospital, I must say RAMC is top notch. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.” Big sister Kendall was thrilled to meet her new baby brother and just as excited to welcome a new cousin.

Just a few days later, on March 11 at 5:27 a.m., Luke and Mariah Rathman welcomed their first child, Isaac Timothy Rathman. Mariah shared, “All the providers and nurses were very helpful and informative, which was especially appreciated as first time parents.”

Congratulations to the Rathman family. What a special joy to welcome two baby boys into your family just days apart. 💙

Congrats to our very own, Julia Wilke, fo being the DAISY Award Winner this quarter at RAMC!

Julia Wilke, RN, Birth Center, Nominated October 2025 - “Julia helped me deliver my sweet baby boy a month ago and I could not be more thankful. She was so kind and reassuring through something so scary as this was my first child. She helped me push for 5 hours straight and never left my side. A nurse even came in to relieve her and she was so dedicated she stayed because she wanted to see me deliver and wanted to help my sweet little boy. I cannot be more thankful for all of her help, for keeping me calm during the whole pushing process, and for never leaving my side. She was there for 3 days of my stay and it was always nice to see a familiar and kind face each day.”

We welcome Kasey to the RAMC Birthing Center!

Meet Kasey Miller, our new Nurse Midwife at RAMC!

“I have 6 kids so I spend most of my free time at their activities as between all of them we have dance, hockey, soccer, and volleyball. I also coach high school volleyball at Sauk Prairie, which I've done for the past 3 years. My favorite hobbies include running/weight lifting and spending time on the lake with my family. Before I started my healthcare career, I was in the Marine Corps for 4 years, stationed in Japan and California.”

The Birth Center is a securely locked unit. To gain entry, press the red “Call for help” button, located before the Birth Center unit locked door. This help button rings at the Birth Center nurses station. The staff will ask your visitors who they are here to visit. As long as the visitor knows your name and you are not a Privacy Patient, the doors will open to access the Birth Center.

Upon admission to the Birth Center, you will be given a visitor badge that can be used to gain entry into the unit. Staff will show you where to scan this badge, on the black pad, outside of the Birth Center locked doors to open the doors. On discharge, these visitor badges will be returned to Birth Center staff

August is World Breastfeeding Month, with August 1-7 specifically designated as World Breastfeeding Week!

Please join us in celebrating the many ways we embrace the breastfeeding journey and support breastfeeding infants and their families.

At the Reedsburg Area Medical Center (RAMC) Birth Center, all our nurses go through extensive education through EMPower Breastfeeding Training. Many of our nurses are Certified Lactation Counselors, and we have four nurses on staff who are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) to answer breastfeeding questions and address concerns. In addition to receiving education and support during the hospital stay, families are encouraged to return to the Birth Center within a few days of discharge to ensure breastfeeding is still on the right track!

Earlier this year, RAMC Birth Center partnered with Breast Pump Depot (BPD). BPD works with many (though not all) insurance companies to be able to provide a breast pump of choice right to you during your hospital stay or delivered to your home within a few days. This decreases the hassle of trying to get a breast pump so that you can focus more on what matters most - you and your baby. Our staff can answer questions about the type of pump that might be most helpful to you.

RAMC Birth Center continues to be able to provide Pasteurized Donor Human Milk (PDHM) to babies who need it during their hospital stay due to feeding issues. PDHM is donated breastmilk that goes through a rigorous testing and pasteurizing process through the Mothers' Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes and is then distributed to hospitals. PDHM is an alternative to formula if supplementation is medically necessary.

The RAMC Birth Center is also drop off depot for the Mothers' Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes! Mothers can bring their milk here to be picked up by the milk bank for testing and distribution. Moms have dropped off milk donations here in amounts big and small. Recently, mom Kiley Nicholson brought in an incredible 1000 ounces of donated breastmilk! Her abundant milk supply allowed for a surplus more than what her daughter, Maisie, needed. Thank you to Kiley and Maisie and ALL the donors for sharing this life saving gift! Visit https://www.milkbankwgl.org/ for more information on human donor milk or becoming a donor!

The 2025 theme for World Breastfeeding Week is "Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems!" Breastfeeding promotes environmental sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint associated with the production, packaging, and waste of formula. Moreover, breastfeeding families need support from other humans! Providers answer questions during scheduled prenatal visits, but expecting parents can also schedule an appointment with an IBCLC before delivery to talk more in depth about concerns and get questions answered if needed. After delivery, families are invited to attend our 4th Trimester Group for added support. This group meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 1030 to noon in our Birth Center - free, no appointment needed! We encourage all expecting mothers to reflect on who their human support system, or "village," will be after birth...who could help with meals, attend to your baby while you take a shower or a nap, or do some cleaning or laundry for you once you are home? Who will encourage you, lift you up, and cheer you on in your journey and assist you in reaching out for help if you need it?

As always, for any questions, call the RAMC Birth Center at 608-768-6251 or leave a non-urgent message in our lactation office at 608-768-6135! We wish our families a heartwarming, fulfilling breastfeeding and parenting journey!
