On this day in 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first successful controlled flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft, piloting the Wright Flyer near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The Wright Flyer stayed aloft for 12 seconds and covered 120 feet in its inaugural flight. Our museum has a piece of the original fabric from the Wright Flyer, which is showcased near a replica of the airplane. Photo by Connor Madison.
