❤️🫁 Celebrating National Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week at Annie Penn Hospital! 🫁❤️

Our Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation team had an amazing time celebrating National Cardiac Rehab Week (Feb 8–14) and Pulmonary Rehab Week (March 8–14) with our patients! Instead of just one week, the team turned it into a month-long celebration filled with fun, energy, and healthy competition.

Patients participated in a variety of engaging activities including:
🎯 Daily challenges
🧩 Puzzles and games
👕 Themed attire days
🏆 Friendly team competitions
💪 Attendance challenges that encouraged consistency and commitment

We even had the opportunity to visit one of the classes where patients incorporated bubble blowing as part of their breathing exercises — a fun and effective way to practice controlled breathing techniques. As you can see pictured below, it brought lots of smiles while reinforcing important pulmonary rehab skills!

Pulmonary rehabilitation helps patients improve exercise tolerance, breathing, quality of life, and overall health through exercise training, education, and self-management strategies.

To make the celebration even more meaningful, patients also collected spare change to support the American Heart Association, contributing toward the Triad Heart Walk.

We are incredibly proud of our Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab team for creating such a motivating and supportive environment for our patients. Your dedication helps our community breathe easier, move stronger, and live healthier.

🌻🌸 Double Celebration at Annie Penn Hospital! 🌸🌻

We recently had the special opportunity to celebrate two incredible team members at the same time. Please help us congratulate our newest Sunflower and Lotus Award recipients!

🌻 Sunflower Award Winner — Ingrid Costner
Ingrid, a Financial Navigator with our Financial Patient Accounts team, was nominated by a patient for her kindness, compassion, and willingness to help during a difficult time. Her support helped a family qualify for financial assistance and brought them peace and hope when they needed it most.

The Sunflower Award honors patient-nominated, non-clinical team members who go above and beyond to provide exceptional care. Inspired by the sunflower’s resilience and warmth, this award recognizes those who bring light, empathy, and humanity to every patient interaction.

🌸 Lotus Award Winner — Barbara Wright
Barbara, Phlebotomist II, received two nominations recognizing her dedication to patient care. She is known for going above and beyond escorting patients safely, assisting visitors in need, and brightening everyone’s day with her warm smile and encouraging words.

The Lotus Award recognizes clinical non-RN/LPN team members who provide extraordinary care with compassion, skill, and heart. Like the lotus flower that rises and blooms beautifully, this award honors team members who lift others up through their actions.

Calling all teens! 📢 Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back this summer? 🏥 💙

Our Summer Teen Volunteer Program at Annie Penn Hospital will soon be accepting applications for our six-week program this summer, June 22-July 31!

We are looking for dedicated students who genuinely want to serve others and make a difference in the daily lives of our patients, visitors, and staff.

Requirements:
✅ Be at least 15 years of age by June 1, 2026.
✅ Have at least a B average in school.
✅ Commit to volunteer a minimum of (8) hours a week.
✅ Complete all required paperwork and show proof of immunizations.
✅ Actively volunteer for 5 out of the 6 weeks- no exceptions!

📮 Applications open Monday, March 23.

The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who go above and beyond their everyday responsibilities to provide exceptional care, compassion, and comfort to patients and their families. Cody exemplifies what it means to serve with both clinical excellence and heartfelt compassion.

Cody was nominated by a family member of a patient, who spoke highly of Cody’s compassion and professionalism during a very difficult time. The family member shared that they have received care in many hospitals, but had never experienced care like this, and were deeply grateful for the kindness and comfort Cody provided to their loved one and their family.

We’re excited to host our upcoming Blood Drive on Wednesday, March 4th from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM right here at Annie Penn Hospital!

🩺 Wellness Checkup (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, iron count & cholesterol screening)

After just two weeks, Annie Penn Hospital has collected 248 pounds of food for the Annual County-Wide Food Drive! 🥫💙

Our departments and practices have truly stepped up to support families across Rockingham County. It may also help that we’ve added a little friendly competition between departments to see who can collect the most food 😉🏆

Shoutout to Penn Nursing Center, who has been rocking the competition and is currently in 1st place with 97 pounds collected! 🏆👏🏽

Every donation makes a difference and helps ensure our neighbors have access to essential items. We are so proud of our team’s generosity and commitment to serving our community both inside and outside our hospital walls.

The drive continues through the end of March, and we can’t wait to see how much more we can collect together!
