Today, on National Doctors’ Day, we honor and celebrate all the compassionate physicians in our community, as well as the dedicated medical providers at Ancora Compassionate Care.

We are grateful for Dr. David Hopper, Dr. Bryan Howington, Dr. Ken Karb, Dr. Anna Laughman, and Dr. James Parsons and value their empathy and expertise. They provide comfort, dignity, and peace during life’s most tender moments, walking alongside patients and their families with empathy, respect, and unwavering support.

We are deeply grateful for your commitment to caring for others and for the difference you make in the lives of so many across our community.

Congratulations to all the winners of the Countywide Chili Championship - and special shout out to Howie Terry and Terry Funeral and Cremation Service for bringing home third place!

Many thanks to all the chili chefs and the RoCo Is Home Foundation for all their hard work - four straight weekends of chili cook-offs is no small feat. And to know that your efforts help raise over $4,480 for 28 local charities is amazing!

🌟 Celebrating Compassion in Action! 🌟

Yesterday, we had the honor of presenting a Compassionate Connections Award to a truly remarkable community partner — Jennifer Love, M.Ed, BSN, RN, NCCHPN, of the Rockingham County Public Health Department 💙

Jennifer, who serves as senior public health nursing supervisor II, was nominated by Cindy Tuttle, Director of Clinical Operations for Gibson House, who shared how Jennifer went above and beyond to support two of our patients during a critical time. When TB screenings were required for assisted living placement, Jennifer stepped in without hesitation — visiting one patient at home and another at Gibson House.

In Cindy’s words: “Her extra efforts helped remove hurdles for our patients, their families, and our staff.”

Acts of compassion and dedication like this make such a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. Jennifer’s willingness to meet patients where they are — both literally and figuratively — embodies the very heart of this award.

Our Counseling Center is now offering "Walk & Talk" sessions. This offers a way to perform self-care on multiple levels - being outdoors and enjoying nature, getting some gentle exercise, and tuning up your mental health with by walking and talking with a professional.

We’re excited to share something new at the Counseling Center!

We are now offering Walk & Talk Therapy: a different way to experience counseling that takes your session outside the office (or the telehealth computer screen) and into nature. Being outdoors can also help reduce stress, support mindfulness, and make it easier to open up.

Walk & Talk sessions may be a good fit if you:
• Feel more comfortable moving than sitting still
• Enjoy being outside
• Want a more relaxed, less formal therapy setting

A few important notes:
• Sessions are held in public outdoor spaces, so we’ll talk together about privacy and confidentiality before the first session
• Not all concerns or situations are a fit for this format: if you are a new client, our first session will be in person or virtual to ensure this is appropriate for you
• We’ll help you decide if this option supports your goals
