Our sweet girl Lucy is now available for adoption! Lucy joined us last year after being found as a stray. The more we learn about Lucy, the more we’ve come to understand that she would do much better in a loving home than at the barn. This was not an easy decision as we love her so much, and we are looking for a forever home for her. Lucy is about 5 years old and about 8-9lbs. She’s a small girl with a loud voice! She does use the litter box when she’s in a home and would prefer a low stress environment where she is the only cat. Lucy is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. If you are interested, please reach out to us via direct message!

The most challenging part of creating joy is our awareness that its companions are sadness and loss. And so the challenge for all of us is to hold both: the joy and the sadness, especially the sadness experienced by those we love. Many of our community members are facing challenges or loss: mourning loved ones, battling disease, and bearing up under incredible caregiving responsibilities.
LC, LW, AG, RF, JT: we love and support you. We are holding you in the light, sending you our love, thinking of you always. And for those of you with challenges you have not yet shared, your community is here. ♥️

Joy can be found in nature - smells, textures, vast scenic views, and much more. But how do we bring that intentionally into our lives every day? We bring the nature home! Our Journey with Joy group made succulent landscapes to bring them some joy this week and many weeks to come. They turned out amazing! When it’s not great weather, or gloomy in the winter, having plants of various textures can help brighten your mood.

We are so excited for our interns that are putting all their learning from the first semester into practice. They are stepping into group leadership roles with our Ephrata group! This week they taught students about the importance of connection and relationships to prepare for the join up exercise in the round pen!

Yesterday we had our first Journey with Joy session! And this is the only photo we have via phone. Instead we took MANY Polaroids of ourselves and each other experiencing play with our minis, Paxton and Story. Thanks to our Positive Energy Grant from Millersville University, we were able to purchase Polaroid cameras and journaling supplies for our group members. We discussed the meaning of “joy” and applied two principles to our session (energy and play). As adults, we sometimes feel we are past play or may have forgotten how to do so. Story and Paxton reminded us how to play again - running free and jumping. We are looking forward to next week!

Wednesday we had Ephrata back again for their second session focusing on leadership, compassion and empathy. They practiced these principles by learning how to lead and walk rescue horses. We are so excited for our interns who have begun to lead groups like these in their second semester with us!

Even on this very cold weekend, volunteers show up and we are beyond grateful. Our herd is well taken care of! No horse experience is required to volunteer with us! We will teach you everything you need to know. Not sure if you want to volunteer here? Schedule a tour with us to see the barn and ask questions. No regular commitment required! Reach out to Shannon, our Volunteer Coordinator - number can be found in the last picture.

Friday we welcomed back River Rock Red Lion for the first of 6 sessions at Lone Oak. This group quickly worked as a team to clean up after and feed the horses. They learned to lead all members of our herd - a challenging task. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
