So incredibly blessed to have these amazing animals in my life and all the people surrounding me to make this life a reality! Thank you 2025 for a whirlwind of a year!

My husband’s inner monologue during this process 🤣 Just kidding, maybe…. Welcome to the crew Smoke and Ribbons! 🔥 Hubby may or may not be excited about your arrival but I sure am!

I said I’ve been keeping surprises! This new gentleman entered the chat a few weeks ago. Any guesses on breed and name? I’ll give you a hint on the name…what comes with🔥 Stay tuned for my husband’s reaction to the newest member of the herd!

What can I say? We have a very musical herd 🤣 I really don’t know why banjo tunes are Charlie’s cup of tea but I’m not one to knock his enthusiasm!

Well it’s officially happened, I’m down for the count for the next few days which means a lot of my time will be checking in on the horses via our barn security cameras. Honestly I love having these cameras when I get to see stuff like this! I’m also super grateful for my support team handling all the things while I’m out including a little surprise we’ll be announcing once I’m back at it!

When life gives you muddy puddles you work on the horses being good with water and muddy puddles! I gotta say mud is not my favorite either, but Maryland winters create a lot of it so the horses have to be comfortable in it too. Thank goodness for my boots keeping my feet warm and dry on days like this and stalls full of shavings to get the boys out of the mud for a while too!

Ready to jump into the weekend! This is a little snippet from the jumping round after our FixATest Dressage test recently. It’s so nice having a horse I trust to get back into the groove of jumping consistently. He’s game to jump higher but I’m taking it nice and slow. He’s so much fun and we continue getting better and better each time!

The cold of Winter has only just begun and I’m already missing the warm weather and longer days of summer!

Win taking his management duties very seriously! I wasn’t taking soil samples fast enough for his high demands so he decided he needed to step in and try it out!

Why are we taking soil samples?

To promote good forage growth next year! I’ve noticed our field is getting more buttercups and less good grass in it each year and want to reverse this pattern. Luckily there are great resources to take soil samples to in Maryland which test for certain nutrient levels and PH.

Good forage needs optimal levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium and the proper PH level.

Stay tuned for the results 🙂

Happy Halloween from our stable to yours!

Not my normal post but here we go! Fall is a great time for pasture maintenance and over the next few days we’ll look at a few things you can do to help your horse field produce better pasture. First up is Aerating.

🐴 Why Aerating Your Horse Fields Matters 🌱
Keeping your pastures healthy isn’t just about reseeding or mowing — aeration plays a key role in maintaining nutritious, resilient forage for your horses.

🌿 Give Your Pastures Room to Breathe
Compacted soil limits root growth and water movement

💚 Improved Grass Growth
Aeration loosens compacted soil, allowing air, water, and nutrients to reach plant roots.
➡️ Result: Stronger root systems and more vigorous, balanced grass growth.

💧 Better Water Drainage
Aerated soil absorbs rainfall and reduces runoff or muddy patches.
➡️ Less standing water means fewer hoof problems and less pasture damage.

🌾 Enhanced Soil Health
Oxygen flow encourages beneficial microbes that break down organic matter.
➡️ Healthier soil = more nutrient-rich forage.

✨ Pro Tip: Aerate once or twice a year — ideally in spring or fall — when grass is actively growing.
Healthy soil = Healthy pasture = Healthy horse 💚
