ORTHOSOMNIA: an obsession/trend with achieving perfect sleep, driven by data from wearable trackers. This can lead to anxiety over metrics and ironically can make sleep worse instead of better.

Approximately 30% of American adults use a wearable device to collect health-related data. Some people rely on these devices to track sleep time and sleep stages; others rely on them to get a "sleep score". While sleep trackers can be helpful, a 2021 study that found trackers only accurately identified deep sleep 59% of the time.

Experts suggest relying on how you "feel" in the morning, alongside sleep trackers, to assess how things may alter your sleep, like diet and exercise, and to still rely on FDA cleared sleep studies to screen for sleep apnea.
