By Standford Center for Aging: The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County awarded Sanford Center for Aging’s Community Services $483,269 for a two-year period through Sept. 30, 2027.

The organization will expand existing transportation services to provide 7,800 free, individualized, door-through-door trips for adults 60 and older in the Reno/Sparks area.

Most of the rides through the Volunteer Transportation Program are provided by volunteers who use their own vehicles to drive clients to medical appointments, errands and socialization opportunities.

We are delighted to announce that Crystal Gray has been promoted to Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Summerlin Hospital! Crystal brings 23 years of clinical nursing experience and over 12 years of nursing leadership experience to this role. She has a proven track record of driving operational excellence and improvements in quality.

Crystal joined UHS in 2019 as the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer of Summerlin Hospital. During this period, she has overseen the medical-surgical units, critical care, emergency department, house supervision and float pool. During her tenure, Crystal has been an integral part of ensuring several successful Joint Commission surveys, reducing length of stay and opening a free-standing emergency department. She has also supported a successful Nurse Apprentice Program and assisted with building a robust clinical ladder program.

Prior to joining UHS, Crystal worked for the University of Michigan Health System and Beaumont Health in Dearborn, MI, both in nursing leadership roles. She earned a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Eastern Michigan University and her Associate of Science in Nursing from Henry Ford College. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Executive Nurse Leadership from the University of Nevada, Reno, with an expected completion date of May 2026.

The 2026 spring break volunteer program is intended for students in grades 9-12 who are motivated to explore the medical field. Student volunteers will assist patients, visitors and employees at Renown Regional Medical Center, with a focus on building communication skills and getting a well-rounded hospital experience.
