This is Carlos.

His childhood was marked by instability and a search for belonging, and by his teens, substance use had become part of his reality. After surviving a near-fatal overdose at 15, he found support and guidance at Quest. Today, he’s a high school graduate, thriving in his career, and enjoying hobbies that bring balance and joy to his life. 🌅

Stories like Carlos’s are why our programs exist — to help youth and families find hope, healing, and recovery. 💙

(Just kidding, only friendly ghosts here🫶!)

Ever wonder what your counselor is really thinking? 👀

Karen’s mind is full of things she loves: her children, her husband, her colleagues here at Quest, her pets, the chill of a winter morning, and a snowshoe trail around Lake Tahoe. She’s a lover of mysteries fantasy, and sci-if and can quote both Shakespeare and Star Trek. She cheers for the Reno Aces and the Washington Nationals, dreams of faraway places like Ireland and Italy, and treasures simple joys like pink Converse sneakers and sober fun.

But at the heart of it all, Karen’s passion lies in helping others heal. As a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor, she brings empathy, humor, and deep understanding to every person she meets. Her own curiosity and love of learning (she’s a proud UNR grad!) guide her in supporting people through their recovery journeys.

This October, during Substance Use & Misuse Prevention Month, we’re our amazing clinicians like Karen who are changing lives in our community. 💙
