Next week, we welcome a new chapter of growth and impact at NAMI Northern Nevada.
Our PRSS Internship Cohort officially begins, with 7 individuals from across Washoe County stepping into a powerful journey—completing the 500 hours required to become both a Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) and Community Health Worker (CHW-I) for the State of Nevada.
These interns are not only building skills—they are stepping into purpose.
Throughout this program, they will have the opportunity to support youth and justice-involved populations, offering peer-led guidance, substance use and opioid awareness education, and life skills support. Each interaction rooted in lived experience, connection, and the belief that recovery and stability are possible.
The goal is clear: to support each intern in securing meaningful, stable employment as a PRSS within agencies across Nevada—strengthening the behavioral health workforce from within our own community.
Since its inception in 2023, this program has evolved in many ways. With each cohort, we learn, refine, and deepen our commitment to accessible, person-centered care.
As we begin this spring cohort, we do so with pride, intention, and a shared vision to serve Northern Nevada in a way that is both compassionate and impactful.
Here’s to the journey ahead—and to the individuals choosing to lead it.
