With slippery ice and snow all around (or, at least, that’s what we expected), now is the perfect time to refresh your fall prevention knowledge!
Dr. Francesca Rinaldo, Director of Value-Based Care at Hometown Health, sat down with KTVN 2 News for their 2 Plus You Nevada segment to talk about how to prevent falls this winter and all year long.
It’s American Heart Month, and when it comes to heart health, Renown Health doesn’t skip a beat.
Here are four ways you can celebrate Heart Month this February:
1. Get active this winter! Just a little daily exercise can go a long way for cardiovascular health.
2. Eat well. Eating more fruits, vegetables, and foods with unsaturated fats can support heart health.
3. Talk to your relatives. Understand your family history of heart disease and schedule an appointment with a Renown cardiologist as needed.
4. Take control of your health today! Find out if you’re at genetic risk for heart disease—at no cost—through Renown’s Healthy Nevada Project. Start learning from your DNA today at renown.org/HNP.
Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can be especially serious for infants, pregnant individuals and those who are unvaccinated.
It often begins with mild symptoms before progressing to severe coughing fits.
Flu season is still among us — but don’t worry! Small steps can still make a big difference. Here are four tips you can keep in your back pocket:
✔️ Wash your hands often (remember to make sure your kids are doing the same!)
✔️ Stay home if you feel sick
✔️ If you must leave home, wear a mask
✔️ Consider getting a flu vaccine

Be aware: Influenza A is still making its rounds. Dr. Thomas Chmelicek, Division Chief of Urgent Care at Renown Medical Group, wants you to be on the lookout for eye irritation, earaches and sinus-related symptoms that may accompany classic flu signs (fever, body aches, fatigue, etc.). According to Dr. Chmelicek, even though Influenza A is a respiratory virus, it can still affect the eyes, ears and sinuses.

At Hometown Health, Nevada’s largest non-profit health insurance company, we believe in a health insurance system that values engaging relationships between members and their physicians.
For 30 years, our mission has been to make a genuine difference in the health and well-being of the people and communities we serve. We accomplish this by doing our part to put the patient in the center of the healthcare system, investing in research, health professional education, subsidized health services, and community health improvement. By creating wellness programs, such as Healthy Tracks and Motivate U, we assist members and their families on their journey to good health and wellness. We also give back to the community throughout the year by supporting non-profits such as the Boys & Girls Club, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), and the Alzheimer’s Association. Our values are “Collaboration, Caring, Integrity, and Excellence,” which hold true when it comes to both our members and employees.
