When it comes to cancer, prevention or early detection can make all the difference. Around 40% of cancers can be prevented or treated more effectively when risk factors are reduced and screenings are done on time. Making healthy choices, staying informed, and talking with your healthcare provider about recommended screenings are simple steps that can have a big impact.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and you may be wondering what your screening options are if you want to get checked. Luckily, there are several different screening methods available nowadays.

Colon cancer screening is recommended for adults aged 45-75, but risk factors like family history or inflammatory bowel disease can affect this recommendation. Talk with your primary care provider to discuss your options for colon cancer screening.

If you were on the Saint Mary's campus yesterday, you may have spotted a leprechaun prancing around and greeting our team members and other visitors. We even managed to capture a photo of him! 🍀

We recently recognized two employees for achieving "Employee of the Month" at both our hospital and within our medical group. We wanted to take some time to acknowledge Alicia and Kimberly for this accomplishment!

Here are just a few of the uplifting comments that were submitted about these employees:

Alicia – "I want to bring Alicia to your attention. She made me feel like a human, not just a patient or a number. She went above and beyond. She gave me a head-to-toe bath after 9 days. I have requested her for my continuation of care, thank you."

"Alicia, a beautiful and kind person. The first night my pain meds needed to be adjusted, she took care of it immediately and stayed in contact with updates to me until she heard back from my doctor. Her bedside manner is impeccable, and she cared for me like I was her mom. Every time she entered my room, she had a beautiful and comforting smile, and I am pretty sure under her scrubs there are angel wings, what a Gem!"

Kimberly – "I want to recognize this call center agent for constantly demonstrating professionalism, friendliness, and accuracy in every interaction. She goes above and beyond to ensure that every caller is directed to the correct location and that their concerns are fully addressed. Her ability to ask the right questions shows both attentiveness and dedication to patient care."

Congratulations to you both for being nominated and selected as our Employees of the Month. Saint Mary's is proud to have you on our team, as you exemplify what it means to be a part of our healthcare community! 🎉

Urgent care teams are here for you when you have a time-sensitive medical need that may not necessarily warrant an emergency department visit. If you can't get into your primary care clinician right away, an urgent care is usually the next best option for non-emergent conditions like sprains, fevers, rashes, small cuts, and more.

Walk-in visits at our urgent care clinics are always welcome, or you can also schedule an appointment online by visiting us at: https://saintmarysreno.com/urgentcare/

We are incredibly proud to announce that Saint Mary’s has received the 2026 Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award for a remarkable 10th consecutive year! Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in northern Nevada to achieve this distinction in 2026, and it is the only hospital in the entire state of Nevada to have earned the Patient Safety Excellence Award for 10 years in a row.

“Patient safety is the cornerstone of exceptional healthcare, and this recognition from Healthgrades affirms the unwavering standards our team upholds every day,” said Derrick Glum, MBA, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of Saint Mary’s Health Network. “Earning this distinction for the tenth consecutive year, a milestone achieved by very few hospitals nationwide, is an extraordinary honor. We're taking a few pages out of the Saint Mary's history book! From our founding Dominican Sisters who opened the hospital in 1908 and opened Nevada's first nurses' training school, to the incredible women who make up the majority of today's healthcare workforce - Happy International Women's Day. 💗

Today we honor the women who laid the foundation for Saint Mary's and the women who carry that mission forward every day.
