A record-breaking $400,112.45 was raised at Valley Girls & Guys’ 17th annual March FUN Night Out—an incredible show of generosity that will provide comfort and much-needed support to local families facing cancer treatment.
A portion of these contributions will benefit Valley Cancer Center’s HOPE (Helping Oncology Patients w/Everything) Assistance Fund. The HOPE Fund helps ease the everyday burdens of cancer care by providing support for food, transportation, utilities, and other essential needs so patients and their families can focus on what matters most: healing and being together.
Funds were also raised to benefit our Multidisciplinary Clinic (MDC), helping outfit 10 new exam and consult rooms and expand the MDC beyond breast cancer to serve patients with other types of cancer.
When our community shows up, hope blooms. March FUN Night Out! is a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when people come together with purpose—creating connection, compassion, and lasting impact. We’re truly thankful to Valley Girls & Guys and to everyone who turned a fun night into a powerful act of neighbor helping neighbor. 🌸

Sara received multiple wonderful nominations, including the excerpts below:

"I am honored to nominate Sara for the We Are Valley Award. I've had the privilege of working alongside her for more than 11 years, during which she has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, compassion, and professionalism. She embodies Valley's mission and values in every interaction.

Sara has been my peer, my support, my encourager, and someone I am grateful to call a friend. Throughout some of the toughest years in healthcare, especially over the past five years, her steady presence has made an immeasurable difference. Her commitment to our clinic, our team, and our patients has never wavered, even in the most challenging moments of our careers.

She exemplifies outstanding teamwork and collaboration. Whether stepping in to help a colleague, offering thoughtful insight, or bringing positivity into the clinic on even the hardest days, Sara lifts the people around her. Her compassion is evident in the way she cares for patients and supports our team, and she consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the best possible experience for everyone she serves.

We've shared countless laughs and more than a few tears over the years, and I don't tell her often enough how much her support has meant to me. Sara makes Valley a better place to work, and I cannot imagine our team without her. I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition!"

"Sara is an exemplary employee and truly a pleasure to work with. She serves as the glue that holds our team together, consistently fostering collaboration, positivity, and accountability. It’s not every day that a volunteer reaches 5,000 service hours, but our incredible volunteer Gladys has already surpassed that milestone. After nearly 31 years at Valley, she returned just months after retirement to continue caring for our community in a new way.

Whether in the Mailroom or in our new Cancer Center, Gladys brings connection, compassion, and joy everywhere she goes—sharing her handmade cards, warm smiles, and kindness with patients, visitors, and staff alike. When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering, her answer is simple: “the people.” She truly embodies our mission of caring for our community like family.

Please join us in celebrating this remarkable milestone and an even more remarkable volunteer. Thank you, Gladys, for all you continue to give to Valley.

Introducing the We Are Valley (WAV) Awards! ⭐ Every quarter, we're recognizing incredible work that's happening in different care areas throughout Valley.

This quarter we're celebrating two WAV Award - Support Services winners: Mickey Sindt and Daryl Guerrero of our Plant Management team! An excerpt of their nomination reads... "We were made aware that our Constellation unit was broken and we needed to get a loaner unit from Virginia Mason in Seattle. Daryl and Mickey volunteered to get a box truck and drive to pick up the loaner unit and bring it back under a very tight timeline and horrible traffic."

Thank you to both Mickey and Daryl for going above and beyond!

A Full Circle Moment: Honoring a Promise with Noah’s Blessing

Last December, Harley and Teryn Wells-Schultz experienced the devastating loss of their full-term son, Noah, who was born sleeping. During their time at Valley, they were given a special teddy bear, carefully stitched to match Noah’s exact birth weight of 7 pounds, 11 ounces. This meaningful memento became something they could hold onto in moments of sadness, loneliness, and grief. A tangible connection to their son.

In the midst of their loss, Harley and Teryn felt a calling to turn their grief into something meaningful for other families facing the same unimaginable heartbreak. They reached out to our perinatal loss specialist, Danielle Darrow, RN, to ask how they could help. Danielle shared that one of the greatest needs is teddy bears, which are used to create these weighted keepsakes for grieving families.

As Noah’s parents beautifully shared, “What started from pain has grown into a promise. A promise we are determined to keep.”

That promise has now been put into action. They generously provided supplies to our nursing team so that we can continue creating weighted bears, inspired by the same compassion and care they experienced, and in honor of Noah’s memory.

Each bear represents a small but powerful act of love—hand-selected, carefully filled, weighed and reweighed to the exact ounce, and stitched together with care. These moments are often accompanied by quiet conversations, shared tears, and memories of perfect little feet and chubby cheeks.

Through Noah’s legacy, comfort will continue to reach families when they need it most.
