The popping or cracking sound is simply gas (like nitrogen or carbon dioxide) being released from the joint space. It’s similar to cracking your knuckles. It doesn’t determine the success of the adjustment because effective adjustments don’t always cause a sound.
The pop isn’t the goal—it’s a byproduct.
Some factors that affect whether you hear a pop:
* The joint didn’t have trapped gas to release.
* The adjustment was done with low force or a different technique
* Muscle tightness or anatomical differences can muffle or prevent the sound.
Hopefully that provides some clarity!
