🐶 *Natural Stress Relievers*
Interacting with pets can lower stress hormones and increase feel-good chemicals like oxytocin.

Pets offer unconditional love, companionship, and playful energy—natural antidotes to depression.

📅 *Routine + Purpose*
Feeding, walking, or caring for a pet brings daily structure and meaning—especially helpful during hard times.

I am so grateful to be able to help my clients reach this place! It means so much to receive kind reviews like these. My goal is to help my clients be the best versions of themselves - and I love to share outside resources and challenge my clients to practice them during talk therapy.
Have a friend or family member who needs someone to talk to? I offer free consultations to assess what you’re looking for in a therapist and whether we would be a good fit!

Casserole vs. Non-Casserole Dish Problems

For those of you wondering what this so-called “theory” is...I made it up! But it’s something I like to remind my clients of when they are suffering from all sorts of issues that can stem from struggles at home.

A “casserole dish” problem is one in which neighbors, friends, & people in the community bring by casseroles, flowers & gifts when there’s been a loss of a loved one or a family is going through a publicly difficult time.

While this is absolutely commended and encouraged for handling grief, there are many other issues that life presents that many of us don’t consider a major event or loss, but nonetheless can affect our family and friends everyday.

A few examples of “non-casserole dish” problems:
-A family member suffering from addiction
-Emotional, verbal and/or physical abuse between spouses and/or children
-A parent suffering from anxiety or depression
-A sibling suffering from trauma that must be kept a secret
-A lawsuit that cannot be discussed with others

And the list goes on. There are many more examples and this surely doesn’t cover all of them but the thing to remember is: No matter how a person acts publicly does not mean we know what’s going on behind closed doors.

My suggestion? Ask meaningful questions when talking with friends, coworkers, and extended family members - get to know their life.

Thought this article from the Washington Post titled "The surprising intimacy of online therapy sessions during the pandemic" hit the nail on the head of how online therapy sessions have been during the pandemic!

"More than once I’ve been unsure if a pause in the conversation has meant that the screen froze, or if we were sharing a meaningful silence. When we emerge from the coronavirus, I’ll go back to in-person sessions. But I’m grateful for these remote sessions because they’ve been both an illuminator and an equalizer, breaking down the facades we all construct and highlighting our shared humanity."

Online therapy is different. But that doesn't mean it's bad.

Happy Monday! I wanted to post a few resources here if you're having feelings of anxiety or depression as we remain isolated from one another. See below:

1) While people are encouraged to stay at home, you may feel isolated from your friends and family. Even if you are isolated, try to maintain social connections online or over the phone, if it is safe to do so, and try to stick to your daily routines as much as possible.

2) National Domestic Violence Hotline: For any victims and survivors who need support, they are there to support 24/7. Call 1-800-799-7233 or 1-800-787-3224 for TTY, or if you’re unable to speak safely, you can log onto thehotline.org or text LOVEIS to 22522.

3) National Su***de Prevention Lifeline: The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones. Call at 1-800-273-8255 (TTY:1-800-799-4TTY)
