Between chilly winds, dry heat, and longer nights, winter is tough on your eyes.

Here’s how to keep your vision comfortable through the cold months:
✔️ Use a humidifier in heated rooms
✔️ Blink often (especially during screen time)
✔️ Wear wraparound sunglasses outdoors to block wind
✔️ Don’t forget to hydrate

Your eyes work hard every season—give them the care they deserve this winter.

❄️ MYTH: Cold air causes dry eyes.
✅ TRUTH: It’s actually the warm, dry indoor air that does the most damage this time of year.

Between forced heat, space heaters, and cozy fireplaces, your tear film can evaporate faster—leading to itchy, red, or gritty-feeling eyes.

If you're noticing discomfort or relying on artificial tears daily, it might be time for a deeper dry eye evaluation. Our Reston team offers treatments that go beyond temporary relief.

One of the best parts of December is driving around to admire all the twinkling lights—but if glare from headlights or decorations is making it hard to enjoy, your eyes might need some support.

Light sensitivity, halo effects, or difficulty focusing at night could be signs of an underlying vision change like early cataracts or an outdated prescription.

👁️ Night vision struggles aren’t just frustrating—they can be dangerous. Let’s get them checked before winter travel or family road trips.

December is Safe Toys and Celebrations Month, and it's a great reminder that not all holiday cheer is eye-safe.

Every year, thousands of eye injuries are caused by flying gift parts, sharp toy edges, and yes—those small, high-speed projectiles that come with certain “fun” toys.

🎁 Here are a few quick safety tips:
✔️ Avoid toys with pointed parts or projectiles for young children
✔️ Be careful when popping champagne or party streamers
✔️ Keep laser pointers away from kids entirely

Celebrating safely doesn’t mean less fun—it just means protecting the gift of vision while making memories.

Thanksgiving may be over, but your eyes might still be feeling it.
Between long drives, late nights, travel fatigue, dry indoor heat, or a few too many hours of screen time during downtime—your vision goes through a lot this time of year.

👁️ Here’s what we recommend post-holiday to give your eyes a little TLC:
✔️ Hydrate more (dehydration = dry eye)
✔️ Take a break from screens for at least a few hours
✔️ Gently remove all makeup or contacts before bed
✔️ Book your annual eye exam if you haven’t already

The holidays are demanding—and your eyes deserve some recovery time, too. If your vision feels off or your eyes are still irritated after the holiday rush, let’s check in.

Ever noticed that bright lights seem to bother some people more than others? It might have something to do with their eye color.

People with lighter-colored eyes—like blue, gray, or green—tend to be more sensitive to light because they have less pigment in the iris to block out harsh rays.

☀️ That means sunglasses aren’t just for summer. Even during a cloudy fall day in Reston, UV rays can still cause damage.
👓 Protect your eyes year-round with 100% UV-blocking sunglasses and a quick annual checkup.

Did you know that declining vision is associated with higher levels of anxiety, depression, and social withdrawal—especially in adults over 50?

Vision loss or even subtle changes in sight can limit your independence, strain your relationships, and reduce your confidence in ways you might not immediately recognize.

The good news: proactive eye care helps maintain more than just vision—it protects your overall wellbeing.
📍 If something feels “off,” let’s start with your eyes. It might be the clarity you didn’t know you needed.
