Why fasting is not recommended right now while you are sick with Lyme disease

When you have active or chronic Lyme disease, your body is under significant inflammatory stress. This inflammation can disrupt the normal balance of hormones—especially the stress hormones made by your adrenal glands.

Lyme disease can affect the HPA axis (the communication system between the brain and adrenal glands), leading to low or poorly regulated cortisol levels. Cortisol is essential for:
• Maintaining stable blood sugar
• Supporting energy and stamina
• Helping your body respond to physical stress

When cortisol levels are low, fasting becomes too stressful for your body. Instead of healing, fasting may:
• Worsen fatigue and weakness
• Increase dizziness, shakiness, or crashes
• Further strain already stressed adrenal function

At this stage, your body needs steady nutritional support, not additional stress.

That is why I recommend:
• Regular, frequent meals
• Adequate protein to support healing and hormone production
• Healthy fats (omega-3s, olive oil, avocado, etc.) for energy and inflammation control
• Vitamin C and B-complex vitamins, which are important cofactors for adrenal and steroid hormone production

Once inflammation is reduced, infections are better controlled, and hormonal balance improves, fasting may be reconsidered safely. Right now, however, the priority is stabilization, nourishment, and recovery.

Bell’s palsy, tinnitus, non-restorative sleep, numbness, tingling, hand tremors, decreased stamina, and persistent fatigue — along with intensified OCD, depression, anxiety, or ADHD-like symptoms — can all be signs of possible Tick-Borne Diseases.

When these symptoms occur together, and especially in someone with:
• a history of tick exposure, and
• an unusual or expanding rash,

the likelihood of Lyme disease becomes very high — sometimes close to a clinical diagnosis.

Tick-borne infections affect the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems, which is why symptoms can appear so diverse and confusing.
Awareness leads to earlier treatment and better outcomes.

Many patients with Lyme disease experience depression — not only from the physical impact of the infection but also from years of being misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or dismissed.

As medical professionals, we have to recognize that our inability to properly diagnose and treat Lyme disease in a timely and comprehensive way can have devastating consequences — including preventable suffering and, tragically, su***de.

Too many patients travel from doctor to doctor, searching for answers, validation, and relief — yet remain untreated or under-treated.

It’s time for greater awareness, education, and compassion within our profession.
Early recognition and appropriate, individualized treatment can save not only health, but lives❤️‍🩹

MCAS!🥺

To effectively manage MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome), it’s essential to treat the underlying cause that is triggering mast cell activation. At the same time, initiating an MCAS protocol can help control symptoms.

A commonly recommended combination includes:
• Ketotifen – a compounded antihistamine (typically prepared by a compounding pharmacy)
• NeuroProtek – a supplement containing luteolin, rutin, and quercetin, which support mast cell stabilization and reduce inflammation
• Singulair (Montelukast) – a prescription leukotriene receptor antagonist

It’s important to discuss this protocol with your physician, ideally someone with experience in functional medicine or who is Lyme-literate, as MCAS is frequently associated with chronic infections and other complex conditions.
