In our latest blog post Pete shares a few ideas about how rituals can help us nurture our important relationships! 🤍

⭐️ 6 Second Kiss or 8 Second Hug: Everyday before you leave give your partner a 6 second kiss – not a peck – a meaningful – hold you close and let you feel it kiss. If it is not your partner you are needing to remember then give an 8 second hug – especially to your teens.

⭐️ Partings & Reunions: Make a point to say “good morning” or “good night.” Make it a point to find the person that matters to say “goodbye” for the day. When you walk in the door, find your person and greet them – tell them hello and how much you missed them while you were away.

⭐️ Fondness & Admiration: Find a way to tell the one(s) you love what you admire about them or why you are fond of them. Let them know you see their strengths and that you appreciate those strengths.

⭐️ Date Nights or One on One Time: Take time once a week to spend dedicated one-on-one time, ideally out of your normal environment so the focus can be on the relationship and not on the endless list of “to do’s” that surround us.

Is this post a little triggering because showing affection or giving your loved one extra attention goes differently than imagined? Maybe they aren't receptive and your ritual seems to make things worse? Let us help. We specialize in couples and family therapy—our focus is relational. We want to support you in improving your relationship. You can set up a consultation through the link in our bio. 🤍🌲

Coloring is an easy way to practice mindfulness. It brings our attention to the present moment—what’s happening in the here and now. A regular practice of mindfulness can help us self soothe and feel peace during stressful moments.

In our latest blog post Pete introduces rituals as a powerful way to remember. In part one of this three part series he dives into how rituals can help us fight unwanted behavioral patterns. He encourages us to identify our own reasons for fighting and then intentionally create rituals to help us remember our "why".

"I fight for my family. I am married to the girl of my dreams - an Idaho girl! I have five beautiful daughters and one son. The thought of my actions letting them down in any way lights my fire. Seeing the look of hurt and confusion on their faces in the aftermath of a setback is the last thing I want. I fight for manhood. I need my son to see that as men we can do better, as men we can be better, as men we can master our demons so they don’t destroy those we love. I fight to be that man."

What is your why? What are you fighting for?

YOU are invited to enter our coloring contest! ⭐️

Coloring isn’t just for kids—it can be surprisingly good for your mental health. Research has found that even short coloring sessions can lower anxiety and help you feel calmer, kind of like hitting a mental “reset” button. Coloring pulls your attention into the present moment—much like meditation—so your mind gets a break from racing thoughts. Plus, it’s something you can do anywhere without needing a big setup. 🖍️

Swing by our office to pick up a coloring page for yourself and a friend! Entries are due August 29th. You can vote for your favorite entry on our story! The winner will be announced September 1st and receive a mystical splash soap bar and lavender whipped tallow balm from our sweet friend Alisha over at 🐮✨

Stuck in the same old fight with your partner? Try asking yourself these 3 questions:

1. What are the moves I tend to make in these interactions? (maybe you shut down and create distance or maybe you do anything you can to get through to your partner)

2. What thoughts and emotions are underneath my words or actions?

3. What story do I tell myself about me, my partner, or our relationship when this happens?

Reflecting on your interactions in this way can help you begin to recognize patterns and uncover the roots of your conflict—these are the first steps to creating a new pattern in your relationship.

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

In emotionally focused couples therapy, we help couples map their interactions, slow things down, and uncover what’s really happening underneath the surface.

Because most fights aren’t about the dishes—they’re about disconnection.

⭐️ Follow us for more ideas on how to nurture connection in your relationship!

📍Looking for a couples therapist in Idaho? We work with couples out of our office in Rexburg and also via Telehealth. You can schedule a consultation with any of our clinicians on our website 🔗😊
