Talley's Folly takes place in a deserted Victorian boathouse in Lebannon, Missiour; the time is 1944. Matt Friedman has arrived to plead his love to Sally Talley. Matt refuses to accept Sally's rebuffs and fears that her family would never approve of their marriage. He gradually overcomes her defenses, telling his innermost secrets to his loved one and in return, learning hers as well. Gradually he awakens Sally to the possibilities of a life together. Tonight come Join the Men's and Women's Choruses as we give thanks and praise for our many blessings, and celebrate the birth of our Savior during this special time of year. December isn't complete without the joyous music. Enjoy traditional favorites such as "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "Silent Night," and "Ding! D**g! Merrily on High," and with new arrangements "Where Shepherds Lately Knelt" and "The Hands That First Held Mary's Child" that are sure to become favorites for years to come. The concert will feature the collaboration of many student instrumentalists, including brass, organ, percussion, and four-hand piano, to welcome the season on a grand scale. Two shows: 6:30 p.m. and 8 :30 p.m. Purchase your tickets through the Ticket Office. $3 per BYU-Idaho student and $6 for general public.

"A BYU-Idaho Christmas,” one of Brigham Young University-Idaho’s biggest productions of the year and a beloved family and community tradition, returns on Saturday, December 7. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the BYU-Idaho Center, attendees will enjoy Christmas melodies performed by special guest artists Frederica von Stade and the Sonos Handbell Ensemble as well as BYU-Idaho performing arts students.

Von Stade is an award-winning vocalist, six-time Grammy nominee, and internationally acclaimed performer. From classical to modern, the artist’s repertoire includes musicals, pop, folk, jazz, and opera. Von Stade has performed with acclaimed organizations throughout the world and the United States including the Metropolitan Opera, the Paris Opera, the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony, and more. Deemed as “one of America’s finest artists and singers” by the New York Times, von Stade will share the spirit of Christmas in this December concert amongst the ringing bells of the Sonos Handbell Ensemble.

Tickets for the performance are $12 for the general public and $7 for BYU-Idaho students. To purchase tickets online, visit go.byui.edu/center-stage/christmasbyui. Tickets can also be purchased through the University Store Ticket Office or by calling 208-496-3170.

Jazz featuring guest artist Damani Phillips. Dr. Damani Philips is a native of Pontiac, MI, where he began playing at the age of 10. He currently serves as Director of Jazz Studies and Associate Professor of African-American Studies at the University of Iowa, where he teaches applied jazz saxophone, directs jazz combos and teaches courses in African-American music, African-American culture, jazz education and improvisation. He has earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from DePaul University (Chicago) and The University of Kentucky in classical saxophone; and a second Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Wayne State University (Detroit). Phillips completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2009; becoming one of the first African-Americans in the country to do so. He was named a Yamaha performing artist in 2014.

Brigham Young University-Idaho’s Department of Theatre and Dance will showcase the power of art through this semester’s Extravadance theme, “Art Embodied.” Using famous works of art as their inspiration, t00ad00adhe dancers will express various art pieces on stage in performances held in the Snow Drama Theater beginning November 12 and running through November 16. The Department of Theatre and Dance is doubling the number of shows this semester, making the high-energy Extravadance event available for two extra shows to allow for more people to attend.Dance Department faculty member and this semester’s Extravadance director, Gary Larsen, says the show will include one of the biggest casts of students they’ve ever used with approximately 90 students that make up the Collegiate Dancers.

Artists, musicians, dancers, and singers alike take the stage in Artrageous’ unique multi-media art performance to create a show filled with high-energy, humor, and good art. Artrageous, a troupe of 12 performers from New Mexico, incorporates pop culture, rock music, audience interaction, neon paint, and black lights into each performance. Said to be “part art studio, part rock concert, and part creation lab,” Artrageous has garnered popularity throughout the country and has performed at a variety of public and private venues. After the show, audience members can have T-shirts, hats, and bags paint-splattered by the Artrageous cast in a custom “splatter zone.” Additionally, attendees are invited to bring their personal art work to display in the Artrageous art gallery.
