Today, The Meadows at Brookmeade had the incredible honor of celebrating a truly remarkable milestone—Grete’s 100th Birthday!

Surrounded by her loving family and friends, Grete was recognized in a very special way. She received a birthday celebration note from Kathy Hochul, along with proclamations from Sue Serino and Michelle Hinchey’s office.

The celebration was filled with joy, featuring a decadent cake and a sparkling cider toast to honor this extraordinary achievement. Reaching 100 years is truly something to celebrate, and we are so grateful to have shared in this special day.

Happy 100th Birthday, Grete! 🎉

🌟 Social Work Intern Spotlight – Social Work Month 🌟

In honor of Social Work Month, The Brookmeade Community is proud to introduce one of our dedicated Social Workers.

Meet Megan Smith, LMSW Some things are just meant to be…
“I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Marist College in 2006 and was hired by, my then internship, Northeast Center for Special Care. This is where I first met Karen, Director of the Social Work Department, and was the start of my professional development. At some point, Karen left to further her career, and I did too. In 2008 I enrolled in the Master’s program at Adelphi University’s satellite campus in Poughkeepsie. Then in 2009, I went to a job fair to apply for a social work position and guess who was the administrator conducting the interviews… yes, Karen! So again our paths crossed.
Fast forward to 2011, I applied for a position at Brookmeade independent living residence, and again, guess who I interviewed with… the community administrator/CEO of Brookmeade, Karen. I have been employed at Brookmeade going on 15 years. I am currently the Marketing and Sales Director. Karen has always supported and challenged my growth and abilities. I am grateful for all of the opportunities afforded to me under her leadership. The Baptist Home is a part of me. I love what I do!” Megan-

🌟 National Social Work Month Recognition 🌟

As we celebrate Social Work Month, The Brookmeade Community would also like to recognize our dedicated Social Work Assistant Cordelia.

“I became a social work assistant because I am passionate about supporting residents and improving their quality of life. Previously, I worked in the activities department, where I enjoyed spending time with residents and helping create meaningful experiences for them. Through that role I realized I wanted a more resident-focused position where I could support residents and their families on a deeper level. As a social work assistant, I am able to listen to residents concerns, advocate for their needs, and help ensure they feel comfortable, respected, and supported in their home. It is rewarding to play a role in helping residents maintain dignity, emotional well-being, and a sense of belonging within.”-Cordelia
