Gastroesophageal reflux is a common diagnosis in infants. Parents report inconsolable crying, poor sleep, spitting up, fussing at the breast, and more.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And when they get this diagnosis from their pediatricians, they’re often offered medications called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), such as Prilosec and Prevacid, to combat the symptoms.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They’re also told that untreated GERD can lead to permanent damage (chronically “burned” mucus membranes as well as anemia).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But oftentimes parents are hesitant to give their child medications, and many find that they don’t even work. So what should a concerned mom and dad do?
