Rocky Catman, a Wisconsin native who was proud of his roots, passed away March 25, 2026 at the age of 67 in Lake Geneva,...
04/01/2026

Rocky Catman, a Wisconsin native who was proud of his roots, passed away March 25, 2026 at the age of 67 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin after a long illness. Rocky was born in Watertown, WI to Katherine (Hayes) and Bradley ‘Pat’ Catman. He graduated from St. Bernard’s Catholic School in 1971 and from Watertown High School in 1977.
Classmates naturally gravitated toward Rocky as he possessed a warm smile, an infectious laugh and an inclusiveness towards others. His charisma was evident throughout his life.
One of his proudest high school moments occurred when Rocky set the Watertown High School record for the 100-yard dash; a record that will never be broken because shortly after his achievement, race measurements changed to meters. In his senior year, Rocky was known as the fastest sprinter in Wisconsin.
In addition to being a member of the high school track team, he also played football and was a star running back. He sang in many of the choirs, which led to his early love of music.
After graduation, Rocky held several jobs before moving to Miami in 1985 where he worked at the Fontainebleau Hotel as a bar manager and then as a tennis pro at the Fontainebleau and Doral Hotels. Becoming a tennis pro was not a foregone conclusion; Rocky had not played tennis before moving to Florida. He spent many hours learning the sport, practicing daily and training with a competitive spirit.

Rocky loved the Florida sunshine, the blue skies, the palm trees and the colorful architecture of Miami Beach. Throughout the 1990s into the 2000s, he wore only white clothes, which made him stand out in the crowd and became his signature look.
His passion for writing deepened while he lived in Florida. He proved his talent when he published his first book, Meet Me at the Riverside in 2014, which was loosely based on his time working at the East Gate Inn (Watertown) after high school. He authored a few other books, several short stories and wrote lyrics for many songs.
After 16 years of being a tennis pro, Rocky made the decision to work in automobile financing, which he did for 20 years. He was so successful in this role that he won several trips and awards.
A source of immense happiness to Rocky was his son Collin, daughter-in-law Veronika and their two young sons, Cruz and Carter. His other joy was his former wife, Joy Frances, a talented singer from Miami, to whom he was married for ten years.
Two other loves in Rocky’s life were his golden retriever, Riley, and music. Riley accompanied Rocky to the beach every weekend in Fort Lauderdale. He was his most loyal companion once his son left for college thousands of miles away in Oregon.
Music was such a touchstone for Rocky. He could recall any moment in time based on what song was playing on the radio. No detail was too small for him to remember, a reflection that he was attentive to family and friends alike.
Rocky remained a die-hard Green Bay Packer fan. He never hesitated to let the Packer management know when he thought they had made a poor player decision whether it was a bad trade or a draft choice.
Rocky is survived by his mother, Katherine Hayes Catman, his son Collin, (Veronika), grandsons, Cruz and Carter Catman, his sister, Terri Catman
Murley, and her sons Noah and Joshua. He was preceded in death by his father, Pat Catman, in 2018.
Rocky embraced life and even in his final months, he loved looking at old photos and laughing with friends as they recalled their glory days as Goslings. He is lovingly remembered by his family, numerous friends and care givers and his death leaves a gaping hole in many hearts.
We would like to thank the management and entire staff of Golden Years/Lake Geneva for the loving care they provided for Rocky over the last two years. We also thank the Badger Hospice staff for the amazing additional care over the last year.
A Mass of Christian Burial is being held in Birchwood, Wisconsin on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 2:00 pm at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Visitation will be at the church at 1:00 pm prior to the service. Burial of his ashes will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery after the service.
A Celebration of Rocky’s Life will be held at Silver Moon in Watertown on Saturday, June 27, 2026 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. All who knew and loved Rocky are welcome.
Any memorials or donations made in Rocky’s honor may be directed to:
Badger Hospice, 165 S. Calhoun Rd, Brookfield, WI 53005.
