Meet Mickie Dorrance, Owner and Operatro of The Refinery!
What inspired you to start your business?
I was inspired by both independence and artistry. As a nurse injector, I love the combination of science and creativity that aesthetics offers. I wanted the freedom to create an elevated and approachable space where people can feel confident, cared for, and truly seen. Building my own practice has allowed me to express my passion for helping others to look and feel their best, while also creating balance for my family as a wife and mom of two.

What is your important about how you run your business?
My approach focuses on luxury, professionalism, and natural results without ever feeling intimidating. I take the time to really get to know my clients, understand their goals, and build lasting relationships. It’s not about changing how someone looks, but enhancing what’s already beautiful. I also believe in supporting and collaborating with other women owned businesses in our community, because lifting each other up benefits everyone.

What’s a lesson you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that growth doesn’t happen overnight. Consistency and authenticity matter. Staying true to my values and trusting my vision has always guided me in the right direction. Every challenge has made me stronger and more intentional in how I manage both my business and home life.

How do you stay motivated when things get tough?
My clients are my biggest motivation. Seeing their confidence grow after a treatment reminds me why I started. I’m also motivated by my children. I want to show them that it’s possible to chase your dreams, work hard, and create something meaningful that makes an impact.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
When I’m not in the office, I’m usually soaking up time with my husband and our two little ones. We love being outdoors, exploring new places, and just enjoying the everyday moments together. I also love cooking, baking, crafting, and any chance to learn something new.
