🎄🚨 A Holiday Reminder from your Consana Health Pharmacists: 🎄🚨
Many food, candy, and drink products look remarkably like some potentially harmful items. The majority of poisonings, about 75%, happen while a product is in use. Here are some tips to keep you home safe this holiday season:
🫙Containers
Keep all products and medicines in their original containers. Container transfers and “Look-Alikes” are dangerous. All too often, calls to the poison center are about ingesting something ‘poisonous’ because the product was transferred to an unlabeled container. It’s not only children who mistake the contents.
🎀Decorations
Move breakable ornaments out of reach and keep metal hooks towards the top of the tree. Use safe ornaments on the lower section of the tree.
🌿Holiday Plants
Poisonous plants should be kept away from children and pets. These plants include mistletoe, berries, holly berry, and Jerusalem Cherry. In a poison emergency, call the National Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222.
🪫Button Batteries
Many toys and Holiday cards contain small pieces including button batteries. These pose not only a choking hazard but also could cause more serious damage if ingested.
👶 Childproofing
There is no such thing as “childproof”! Kids are smart and love to observe how adults do things, including taking medicine or drinking alcohol. Keep an eye out for unlocked cabinets, unattended purses, cleaning supplies, stairs, or hot objects—store medications out of sight and out of reach of children.
📱 Program the Poison Help number 1-800-222-1222 in your phone. Free, fast, expert help is just a call away 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Remember, a little caution goes a long way in preventing medication errors. Stay safe and enjoy a happy, healthy holiday season! 🎁❤️
