Break the cycle of addiction by understanding and healing from the wounds that led you there. When facing the cycle of addiction, “just stopping” can be incredibly difficult, if not seemingly impossible. But more importantly, even if we manage to “go cold turkey,” we run the risk of relapse because we have not actively done the deeper work of understanding and healing from the wounds that led us there. This is why trauma-informed addiction counseling and care can be vital in breaking the cycle of addiction. As one trauma and addiction therapist notes, “In trauma-informed care, we take a safe, slow approach to healing the hurts that have led to addictive behavior.”
