Meltzer Counseling is privileged to be part of a collaborative community. Meadows IOP/PHP Dallas invited a handful of us to join their Friday clinical staffing. Much to our surprise, their Friday staffing includes about 25 clinicians who intentionally meet every Friday to discuss how to optimize patient care. Many of the clinicians have a specialty to provide such as neurofeedback, disordered eating, trauma, substance use disorders, art therapy, problematic sexual behaviors and betrayal trauma to name a few. They wanted to get to know our clinicians to improve discharge planning and ways to collaborate while clients are in their care. Clearly the mission is to offer excellent clinical care and work collaboratively with the community. The Meadows outpatient has a comprehensive program that adjusts based on each clients needs and includes neurofeedback and brain spa opportunities. The feedback from our clients is always positive. Meltzer Counseling clinician highlight: We are so fortunate to have Ethel Wandeka as a Graduate Intern Therapist supervised by Jane Kong LPC-S. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology after years of clinical work in Uganda.

Ethel works with children (ages 7 and up), adolescents, and adults, and has several years of clinicial experience supporting clients presenting with anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, relationship challenges, health concerns and substance use-related issues.

Her clinical approach is client-centered and culturally responsive, incorporating evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, as appropriate to the client’s needs. Ethel focuses on helping clients build coping skills, emotional regulation, and insight to support meaningful growth and emotional well-being. She has been providing clinical services in Uganda since 2018 and has a breadth of experience. She is able to offer reduced fees to improve access to care. We can better care for others if we create opportunities to renew ourselves physically and emotionally. Holidays are challenging for some. It’s an opportunity to support and learn from each other. Last Friday we were so fortunate to have Mayor Amir Omar join us for consult. He was gracious with his time and experience, shared goals for the community and asked excellent questions on how we can collaborate to improve access to care and address the mental health needs of our diverse community. We were also joined by Adrianne Richardson Collins, President of the Multicultural Alliance. The focus was how to improve understanding and connection within our diverse communities and clearly both these leaders have a passion for service.
