Our Mexico team returned from Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo earlier this week! The team, led by Dr. Alejandra Garcia de Mitchell, provided free ear reconstruction surgeries for 18 children with microtia, including a graduating class of 4 children who completed their final reconstruction and received their LEAP t-shirt. We are grateful for the commitment and care from our volunteers. Thank you to our longtime partner Xochitl Palacios and our hosts Clinica Cristo Medico and Club Rotario Ixtapa for your continued support!

After our arrival in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexico, the team jumped right into evaluations. We are on our second day of surgery for our planned ear reconstruction surgeries. We continue to witness each patient’s story in their journey for hope and healing.

Our first trip of the year kicks off this week as our volunteers travel to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo tomorrow! This mission focuses on ear reconstruction surgeries for children with microtia, a condition in which the outer ear is not fully formed. Please keep our team in your prayers as they travel and serve the children of Mexico.

During our recent Belize mission, our team attended a dedication ceremony for the Ann Shimek Breastfeeding Unit at Northern Regional Hospital, our longtime host hospital in Orange Walk. Ann was an incredibly talented nurse who helped our Founder Dr. Craig Hobar get LEAP started in 1991. We were honored to have her family in attendance at the ceremony. This project is made possible by the generosity and kindness of LEAP’s donors and done in partnership with LEAP, Northern Regional Hospital, Ministry of Health & Wellness, and Rotary Club of Orange Walk
