⚠️The FDA has issued a recall for ByHeart infant formula due to possible contamination with Clostridium botulinum (the bacteria that can cause infant botulism).
Follow recall instructions for returns or disposal.
Watch for any unusual symptoms, such as:
Weak or floppy movements
Trouble feeding or sucking
Weak cry
If you notice any of these, contact your pediatrician right away.
While Shine Pediatrics does not typically recommend ByHeart formula, we understand some families may be using it. Our team is here to help you find safe, nourishing alternatives for your baby.
Recommended goat milk–based formulas:
Holle, Bubs, Baby’s Only Goat Milk, Kendamil Goat Milk, and Hipp Dutch Goat Milk.

Freedom or Liberty or Both?
SHINE is here to bring out the freedom spirit in each child who walks through our doors. We want to create the least restrictive process to liberate the innate God given freedom in each child.
Traditional pediatric medicine from its philosophy on infectious disease to child development to anticipatory guidance is predicated on many times removing the freedom of the child by making he or she dependent on the medical system for his or her liberty, to the detriment of our inherent freedom.
And what is Liberty? Instead of thinking of the human condition from the inside out, which is freedom. Liberty is from the outside, in. Liberty is dependent more on the society that we live in more so than the individual. Most of what is being done in primary care pediatrics in the most conventional standpoint is a limited Liberty. “You will get your vaccines.” “You will take this medication prescribed for these number of days.” “This is your diagnosis and there is no gray area. “ “We know better than you mom and dad or patient.” “We know how you are supposed to feel or even be.”
The premise of primary care pediatric medicine has lost its ability to provide liberty and furthermore, it has become the gateway to other very restrictive, non liberating specialist who speak from ivory towers that it’s my way or the highway.
So on this day, terms such as Medical Freedom, Medical Liberty, or even terms such as Holistic, Functional, Integrative have its root in how we view the patient as having freedom in dictating their trajectory of health, personal accountability, and the opposing force of Liberty that is driven by a system of control or a minimization of it, to allow the individual to use their freedom in the most “right” way that they know how.
We celebrate the individual, not the system or the society. Let us give credence and blessings to those systems and societies that allow liberty to be the top priority and give the person the utmost freedom. The United States is losing its definition of Liberty but let’s celebrate those spaces in our land that allow Liberty to give the child the Freedom to SHINE!

SHINE is growing with our approach to balance of traditional and alternative approaches and our SHINE STANDARD is what sets us apart from other conventional and natural healthcare operations. Our STANDARD is unique and I cannot put my finger on all of it. We have done an amazing job in social media without the exorbitant cost of search engine optimization companies that would have put my small business in the red had I used one of them and forging long lasting relationships with important networks and we have built trust in the community which is seen by the numerous word of mouth recommendations from new patients as well as the comments made from many of our established patients to the amazing job that our team has done to invest time and energy into appreciating that the experience in the office itself is critical to the care of the patient.
We have a lot of moving parts at SHINE but we have done a great job refining our process and being open to change. Change is going to happen and we want it to happen.
We all at times feel a little vulnerable with change because it makes us all a little incompetent but incompetence is good because it forces you to learn.
We love our families because we have some who know what they want and they have done their research about our practice, their child’s condition, and they want honest answers. There was a time in medicine that us physicians had all the knowledge from our training and our textbooks that were behind our desk but now that material is open sourced on the internet and is available to the masses. The patient may not be a physician but some will know what questions to ask or ask questions that will help satisfy their curiosity. The ability to partner with the patient and family in the medical decision is critical in outpatient medicine and if we do not appreciate this fact, we will lose our patients trust. I think that is the number one reason I see SHINE grow exponentially is because the family has lost trust in the medical system. We have done a poor job of validating the patient’s concern or we have sent them in tangents without their health improving. There are some physicians who are changing the trajectory of a patient’s health but for many, the approach is of being a bystander or an air traffic controller instead of the pilot of the patient’s health.
I think we have done a phenomenal job of being in the cockpit and understanding the controls and signals to control the health of our patients and we look forward to flying to new levels with our patients at SHINE. We want to continue to be a beacon of light to the broken and unbroken pediatric lives in the DFW area.
