It's Parkinson’s Awareness Month. Village Shores residents and staff raised $1047 for the Parkinson's Foundation with our Parkour for Parkinson’s event with Ascend Rehabilitation!

High fives and bragging rights go to Team Mission: Imparkourable (aka Heidi & Tom) who took first place in our Parkour obstacle course competition. Staff members competed in teams of two stepping up (and over) while dodging noodles, ribbons.

Parkour is a training tool used at The Club to:

⭐Enhance balance and stability
⭐Improve coordination and large motor skills
⭐Develop agility, precision and spatial awareness
⭐Boost reaction time and cognitive processing
⭐Promote cardiovascular health

One unexplained symptom can lead to many more questions, but you don’t have to face this uncertainty alone.

No single one of these 10 early signs means that you should worry, but if you have more than one sign, you should consider making an appointment to talk to your doctor.

One of the core values in our community is professionalism. Professionalism is more than just neat uniforms or following policies—it’s about the care we give, the respect we show, and the way we connect with each other and our residents.

Professionalism means that our team is truthful and acts with good intent at all times, and that relationships between our staff and residents and other customers have appropriate boundaries.

Our resident spotlight this month is on Karen! Here are some things you may not have known about your neighbor...

👪 She's a mom to three boys and offered daycare when the boys were little so she could be home with them. She now has 4 grandsons.
🏥 She worked at Mayo Clinic in the Pediatrics department before coming back to Richfield, her hometown. She also drove school bus, as you can see from her photo.
⚾ Karen is a sports fan and loves listening to Twins games, especially from her balcony.

We're so happy you're part of our community, Karen! Be sure to tell her hello if you see her around!

Knowledge hungry Village Shores residents were treated to a special lecture by Director of Programs/guitarist, Brad Ray, as he proved that he’s more than a “one trick pony.” He traded his acoustic for a lectern and presented an enthralling and well put together lecture “Minnehaha Falls - A Catalyst of Cohesion” which gave a thorough overview of our beloved waterfall just 4 miles east of our community.

During some of the humorous sections, Brad noted many chuckles and “mini hahas” while his captive audience enjoyed the beautiful images and stories behind them. He’s looking forward to another summer of “busking” on his guitar at the falls this summer, and the residents are looking forward to at least least one trip to the beautiful cascade once the wildflowers bloom. History is all around us, and understanding it makes us better people in the present.

Research suggests that experiencing art and creativity, even for a few minutes a day, has tangible effects on our mental and physical health. Doing so helps slow cognitive decline, reduces the risk of heart disease and increases well-being as we age.

This “fifth pillar of health” is often dismissed as entertainment.

Storyteller Pati Kachel is a spellbinding and knowledgeable historian on many notable people throughout history, especially on women. Today at Village Shores, Pati gave an overview about the importance that Helen Keller has played in the lives of millions. Being born blind and deaf, as many already know, the teachings of Anne Sullivan, and the breakthrough communication system she invented help destigmatize disability. The ripples this revelation brought throughout the world is still felt today, as we know and understand that people with disabilities are still valuable and important members of our society. Thank you, Pati, for your captivating and enlightening presentation.
