FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD – FEBRUARY 2

The day Mary and Joseph brought the Child Jesus to the Temple, offering Him to the Father according to the Law. In this sacred moment, the aged Simeon recognized Christ as the Light of the nations and the glory of God’s people.

This feast, also known as Candlemas, reminds us that Jesus is the Light who drives away darkness. As we present ourselves to God, we renew our faith and offer our lives in loving service.

Today we enjoyed a staff appreciation lunch to all the caring and dedicated employees who braved the elements to ensure that the residents were well cared for during the past weeks snow fall and frigid temperatures. Employees from every department showed heroic dedication over the past several days, from the hands-on care givers in the Nursing Department to the Dining Services workers who fed not only our residents but their fellow staff members as well. Our Maintenance and Custodian crew stayed on task in keeping ahead of snow removal, which was no small task! Housekeepers and Laundry workers made sure the facility stayed clean and tidy, and our Receptionists were here to greet visitors and answer telephone calls from anxious family members of residents. Support staff and Activities employees were on hand to ensure that our residents encountered no ill effects of the storm. This was truly a team effort, and our awesome staff rose to the occasion and tackled the challenge
head-on.

Back for another performance, Singer and Guitarist, Tom Adams entertained us on a cold, wintry day! Tom's unique voice and musical style are always a welcome treat. Tom sang music by Buddy Holly and the Beatles, just to name a few. Regina Health Center Residents enjoyed his storytelling and history of the songs, as well.

Feast Day St. Angela of Merici
Born in Brescia, Northern Italy, 1474
in a time of strife and famine. She was left an orphan at the age of 15. She gave up her patrimony and joined the Franciscan Tertiaries in order to live in poverty.
In 1535, she founded a religious institute under the patronage of St. Ursula (Ursulines), which consisted of devout laity, members of nobility and persons of a humble station in life. She wanted them to be consecrated to God and dedicated to the service of their neighbor, but remain in the world and live a celibate life in their own homes. She thus anticipated the secular institutes that have flourished in modern times.

When she died in Brescia on January 27, 1540, there were some 24 branches of the Company of St. Ursula serving the Church. She was not canonized until 1807, largely because her ideas were considered too progressive.

Saint Angela, you were not afraid of change. You did not let stereotypes keep you from serving.
Help us to overcome our fear of change in order to follow God's call and allow others to follow theirs.
Amen
