Changes to Medicare Advantage programs may impact your coverage and access to care. For example, we learned Quartz Medicare Advantage will no longer be offered here, directly impacting patients enrolled in this plan.

Before open enrollment ends on December 7, 2025, review your coverage. Don’t wait until it’s too late to discover your preferred provider is suddenly out of network or your coverage has changed. Your health care access depends on informed choices.

We are proud to recognize Rose Birkholz as our Volunteer of the Month!

Rose was born and raised in Bear Valley, Richland County, as one of nine siblings. She attended Madonna Grade School in Keyesville and graduated from River Valley High School. Her educational journey continued at Madison Area Technical College (now Madison College), where she studied Medical Stenography. Later, she earned a bachelor’s degree in business through Edgewood College’s Adult Program.

Rose began her career at the VA Hospital in Madison while attending college and went on to serve in various roles at both Madison and Milwaukee Veterans Hospitals. After an incredible 38 years of service with the Department of Veterans Affairs, she retired—but her commitment to helping others never stopped.

After retirement, Rose and her husband moved to Richland Center to be closer to family. Their daughter lives in Rockbridge with her husband and five children, while their son resides in the Waunakee/Lodi area. Most of Rose’s siblings also live in Richland County, making family a central part of her life.

Her connection to The Richland Hospital and Clinics runs deep: she was born here, and her mother served as a registered nurse at RCH for many decades. Rose joined Partners of the Richland Hospital a few years ago and currently serves as the organization's treasurer. She believes strongly in staying active in the community, saying, “You never know when you may be the person needing service.”

In addition to her work with Partners, Rose is involved in many other community efforts. She is the treasurer for St. Kilian’s Cemetery Association, a member of the GRACE Board of Directors and Director of Local Cancer Patients, the superintendent of Junior Division Foods & Nutrition at the Richland County Fair, an active member of St. Mary’s Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW), and a volunteer with the St. Mary School Lunch Program.

Rose’s dedication, warmth, and tireless service make her an invaluable part of our volunteer community. Thank you, Rose, for all that you do!

The Richland Hospital and Clinics participated in Southwest Technical College's Career Fair on Wednesday, October 29. Several students from the nursing, medical assistant, and surgical tech programs expressed interest in our facility. Rhonda, Dana and Jeremy appreciated the opportunity to talk with them about our incredible culture and many opportunities. Thank you to SWTC for giving us the chance to meet with the future of health care!

Dr. Claire Fletcher, family medicine and obstetrics, will begin work in January at The Richland Hospital and Clinic. Her attention to patients in every age and stage of life, including the comprehensive care for women from preconception, pregnancy, delivery and the health of the newborn, offers an exceptional choice for long-term care. She’s also thrilled to be locating in this area.

“My family and I were impressed by the natural beauty of the Driftless region and the community of Richland Center,” says Dr. Fletcher. “My husband and I have two young children and there appear to be a lot of things for families to see and do,” she adds. But a move to Wisconsin in January? Brrrr.

“Fortunately, we’re making the move to the area around mid-November,” says Dr. Fletcher. She grew up in the south but is ready for another Midwest winter. “After a few years in Minnesota, we learned the importance of snow pants!”

We asked Physical Therapist, Taylor Billington, to share a few facts in honor of National Physical Therapy Month. Here are a few of our favorite, “Did You Know” moments:

Falls are the number one cause of injury in older adults, but they don’t have to be. Our Physical Therapist help seniors build strength, balance, and confidence to stay safe and independent.

Our Occupational Therapists & Speech-Language Pathologists support recovery and treatment for stroke, brain injury, and dementia with expert care for cognitive challenges. “In rural communities like ours, rehab teams go the extra mile, treating everyone from toddlers to seniors with personalized, full-spectrum care,” she says.
