If I had to give advice to someone trying massage for the first time, hereâs what Iâd say đ¤
Just do it.Your body isnât âtoo muchâ of anything⌠not too tight, not too sensitive, not too far gone. Not too big, small, odd shaped. Itâs actually doing its best to communicate with youâand itâs worthy of care exactly as it is.
Give your Therapist a real chance.
Try them 2â3 times. Your body needs time to build trust, unwind patterns, and feel safe enough to let go. If it still doesnât feel aligned after that, thatâs okayâfind someone who does. But donât give up on your body in the process.
Breathe.
Your breath is everything. It sends oxygen to every single cell, helps your nervous system shift out of survival mode, and creates space where tension used to live. Slow inhales, longer exhales⌠let your body soften instead of bracing.
Ask questions.
Nothing is weird or off limits. This is your body, your experience. And yesâsensations youâve never felt before will happen. Tingling, emotional releases, warmth, even unexpected soreness⌠itâs your body processing, reconnecting, and sometimes unwinding things that have been stored for a long time.
Massage isnât just about âfixing pain.âItâs about learning your bodyâs language⌠and finally listening to it. You deserve this.
If youâve been thinking about itâthis is your sign đ¤ and if you as my client have any advice to someone trying my massage for the first time, please leave it in comments! Iâd love to hear your thoughts!
