Meal planning promotes healthier eating habits, reduces stress, and supports your health and fitness goals. It also helps cut back on food waste and can lower your food budget when you are intentional about using up leftovers (hey, those are just meal prep!).

Use this simplified image to create your plan for the week--don't forget about snacks to help keep your energy levels up throughout the day. Make a simple plan and be realistic about time management (Friday evening might not be the best time to plan a huge meal to cook when you are exhausted from working all week!).

Christmas Chai Hot Chocolate

Add a new twist to your hot chocolate by adding spices typically found in chai! This Chai Hot Chocolate is a fun way to indulge in the season without added sugars that will leave you feeling yucky. Flavored with beneficial aromatics and spices and sweetened with maple syrup, you can enjoy this sweet treat and support healthy nutrition habits.

Ginger is a known anti-inflammatory and can help ease digestive upset, while cinnamon can help stabilize blood sugar levels in healthy individuals. By using pure maple syrup, you also are getting manganese, zinc and iron into your diet without much effort.

Success with nutrition is about finding a healthy middle ground.

Even during the holidays.

Please stop with the "calories don't count during the holidays".

Please stop with the "I have to exercise to earn my holiday cookies."

Please stop with the guilt you feel over enjoying holiday treats.

Find balance. Balance can look like healthy choices with holiday treats mixed in. Balance prevents binging and feeling guilty. Balance prevents restriction and feeling that food has to be earned.

It doesn't.

Sometimes the nourishment we need is physical nourishment from the nutrients food provides. Sometimes the nourishment we need is the nostalgic nourishment that a sweet treat can bring, reminding you of a simpler time in your life. Both are necessary types of nourishment! ❤

How is your motivation these days? December can exhaust us, but January promises us new beginnings and our motivation tends to increase as we look forward to all of the things we intend to do or commit to in the new year.

Does this sound familiar?

Don't get distracted from enjoying the season by wishing for the new year, but use that motivation to spend some time considering what you might like to try to do in the coming months to prevent the burnout we tend to feel in December.

That could be eating better and moving more (January favorites), but what about prioritizing self-care, resting or learning to enjoy the moment instead of rushing to the next thing?

Here is an easy Christmas side dish that will add colors and vibrancy to your holiday menu!

This crispy and crunchy salad might become one of your family's favorite Christmas side dishes! Dried cranberries provide a sweet contrast to the savory Brussels Sprouts. There is a bit of crunch from toasted pecans and chopped cooked bacon.

Brussels sprouts are a cruciferous veggie high in fiber, vitamins and antioxidants. Studies have linked an increased intake of cruciferous vegetables, including Brussels sprouts, to a decreased risk of Type 2 diabetes!
