A recent study by Carle et al. supported previous evidence showing that, when used together, the 11 items of the PCPCM measure represent primary care quality. This study also found that clinician-level PCPCM scores can be reliably analyzed with as few as 5 patient responses per clinician.

In a recent MedScape survey, more than three quarters of clinicians graded the health of primary care as a C or lower. Clinicians reported several reasons for this grade, including too few doctors entering primary care, low salary and reimbursement rates, and insufficient time for patient visits.
