Elemental Myofascial Release is through training with John's work - he developed John Barnes myofascial release approach. It was his mission in life to spread the approach as widely as he could to help those in need.
He past last Friday December 19, 2025.
John's work changed my life. I knew when I went to my first seminar that myofascial release was what I wanted to focus on in my work. Well, I actually had the intuition spark upon a few visits with another excellent MFR therapist, Rob Crampton. This was before I went to massage school. I could tell the work was effective and the approach was what I was looking for- and my right leg pain cleared up for good after 3 sessions.
I met John in 2019 down in Atlanta Georgia for MFR 2 and Unwinding. It was so sweet to be with him in person and meet him.
When my friend mentioned I should check out MFR Insight page on FB (btw- MFR Insight is a really cool FB page open to all) I knew. I definitely felt the news deeply and with sadness.

Words John repeated in trainings as the foundation of myofascial release. One of my favorites is " If you think you're working too hard, you are working too hard" The gentle approach of mfr was never to force a release because that would not be a real release.
Going back to life, forcing healing never works, it is when we allow ourselves to let go, get out of our own way, healing can occur, the restrictions are able to clear because we give ourselves permission to not hold on so tightly.
Playing here is John's favorite Artist Dan Vasc performing Amazing Grace.
John's work will be carried on by amazing instructors across the country. John's influence and spirit will remain with the peole and the work as it expands and helps more and more people.
Peace John. Thank you.
