This past Saturday, I had the honor of receiving the 2025 “Lift As You Climb” Award at the Richmond HER Collective’s HERoes Bruncheon, themed Rest. Reclaim. Rise.
I announced a few weeks ago that I had been nominated… but to actually be chosen for this award was something different. Standing in that room surrounded by powerful, beautiful Black women, I felt something I don’t often let myself feel: SEEN💐
I’ve never been one to chase the spotlight. I’ve always just done the work, helping others start, expand or grow their practices, sharing what I’ve learned, mentoring, advocating, because it’s who I am, not because I need recognition. But this moment reminded me: IT'S OK TO BE SEEN, to celebrate yourself, and to embrace the joy that comes from being acknowledged for what you pour into others.
This award hit deeply because, over the last 2 years, I’ve learned that boundaries and kindness can coexist. I’ve learned that my purpose doesn’t change, even when people mishandle me. I’m learning to build fences, not walls; to let the right people in while still protecting my peace.
I’m so thankful to my family, friends, and colleagues who came to celebrate with me and those who continue to walk beside me through every season. 💛
Thank you Richmond HER for recognizing that Black women are the backbone of community, leadership, and resilience, and for creating a space where we can rest, reclaim, and rise together.
Here’s to lifting as we climb, and remembering that our light doesn’t dim when we shine it on others.✨
