Let’s talk about a tiny but mighty player in facial balance: the Depressor Anguli Oris, or DAO.

This is the little muscle responsible for that downturned corner of the mouth — the “sad face” look most of us don’t love.
It’s the most superficial muscle in the lower face and it’s innervated by a branch of the marginal mandibular nerve.

Here’s where things get tricky — if you go too medial or too deep, you might hit its neighbor, the Depressor Labii Inferioris, and that’s when you get a crooked smile.

💡 Pro tip:
Have your patient activate the muscle. Follow the most medial line — then inject just lateral and superficial to that. One small dose is usually all you need.

Anatomy matters. Precision matters.
