Facts we all should know:

Maternal Mortality rate in the US has nearly doubled over the last couple of decades despite all the resources and technological advancements at a hospitals disposal.

BLACK WOMEN are 3 times more likely to die during childbirth than any other race.

Data collected from the Maternal Mortality Rate Review Committee found that from 2017-2020 4 out of 5 pregnancy deaths were preventable.

In short black women need to thoroughly vet the hospital ,the OBGYN , and any and everyone who will have something to do with their pregnancy. The father and family of the child should be asking questions and keeping up with appointments and overall health and well being of the child and mother during pregnancy.

We take for granted that ultimately the people that are responsible for the care of patients ,while they are medical professionals who received training and are experienced that does not make them infallible. We know that because the data clearly reflects that.
And if you have a family member in the hospital for any reason go check on them. Ask to speak to the doctor ,get updates, ask questions even if you feel they are stupid.

As a birth worker my job is to educate you on these important topics that aren’t covered. Be the voice and the protector you may need in a scenario with no support.

My name is Makia Lee the owner of Rooted Birth Co. I am also a birth and postpartum birth worker and doula with Birth In Color Lynchburg cohort . Soon offering services to mothers and mothers to be around the Lynchburg area.

I specialize in pediatrics as well as holistic and traditional birthing for mothers during and after their pregnancy. My ultimate focus is providing a safe space for moms during their transition into motherhood and after. From your prenatal to postpartum period I am the one there ready to help , providing mental , emotional and of course maternal guidance and support during your labor and delivery.

✨ Meet Your Birthing Coach ✨

Hi! My name is Makia your birth and postpartum doula!

I specialize in pediatrics , prenatal / postpartum care , herbal care , labor and delivery services, customized belly casting and birth photography.

Although I work with women of color I am well rounded in birth work for all races and / or religions.

I am infant CPR certified, a certified operating room tech / anesthesia tech which gives me the freedom to care for my clients in both the delivery room and operating room.

I started my career with bedside care and transitioned into pre / post- op care which shortly after lead me into my specialty of labor and delivery.

Aside from babies and birth work I enjoy the simple things ! I love fashion, traveling, photography, working out , content creating , spending time with family and let’s not forget FOOD!!!!

I have been in healthcare for about 8 years and have always had that passion for birth work and new life. To add on my list of certifications I am also Phlebotomy certified, a certified herbalist , certified in pediatric respiratory care , certified in anesthesia and now here I am in birth work!

My ultimate goal is to provide a safe space to advocate for black mothers within maternal healthcare and provide hands on and knowledge based care / education in a holistic manner.
