Hackmatack Retreat: Time Out for Time In

Hackmatack Retreat: Time Out for Time In check us out @ www.hackmatackretreat.com The land is native prairie with a winding slow river, ponds, 200+-year-old oaks, and big sky.

The mission of Hackmatack Retreat is to provide an accessible space that becomes the physical container for deep wisdom teachings and heart-centered, transformative work. Hackmatack Retreat Center in Richmond Illinois (bordering Wisconsin) sits on almost 30 acres of protected land in the Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge in the heart of the Midwest. With countless places to enjoy the silence and meditate, gathering spaces for group work, and writing nooks and crannies indoors and out, Hackmatack seeks to offer “time out for time in” amidst this noisy world. Only five minutes from two small towns with all the amenities needed, and within an hour or so of major airports of O’hare, Midway, Milwaukee, or Rockford, Hackmatack is all about ease. We’re also 15+ minutes from the world-class historic resort town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. We host retreats and on a case-by-case basis offer Hackmatack for others to use for their retreats.

The Glass Cabin at Hackmatack transforms into a crystalline cocoon when winter arrives—where floor-to-ceiling windows frame a world gone quiet under fresh snow, and the only sound is the crackling of the fire inside.

Wrapped in warmth while the forest rests under its white blanket. Steaming mugs. Soft blankets. The kind of stillness that lets you finally hear yourself think.
This is where you step away from everything to step back into yourself.

Time out for time in—now with a winter view.

The river freezes over at Hackmatack, creating a landscape of stillness that invites deep reflection. Our Glass Cabin sits at the edge of this transformation—where moving water becomes mirror, where constant motion surrenders to quiet.

Winter at Hackmatack offers a different kind of retreat. The frozen river, the bare oaks, the big Midwest sky—everything stripped to its essence. This is the season for going inward, for the work that requires silence and space.

The Glass Cabin sleeps up to 6 guests and provides an immersive experience in the protected forest of the National Wildlife Refuge. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the winter landscape while you stay warm inside, creating the perfect container for personal transformation or intimate group work.
