So, I’ve been meaning to post a video to show you all the steps in starting my dialysis, but, things have been a wee bit crazy lately. With school and crazy schedules.
So, I am a little depressed. I got a call July 10th at 3:30pm, it was a wonderful call, I was NEXT in line for a kidney. Well, that night passed and the next day came and went. No call. I was about to hook up my dialysis on July 11th around 11:30pm. My phone rang. I saw the number and my heart dropped. I was the PRIORITY. I was gone get my kidney. We got to the hospital ran all of the tests and everything checked out perfectly. 98% match.
Then, just as we were waiting for them to come and take me to surgery, people came in all gowned and masked up.
Sorry Mrs. Mullins your send off Covid test was positive.
No Kidney for now. 😭
My whole world changed in that moment. I am coming to terms with the fact that God has a greater plan for me and my family. Maybe even healing my kidneys so that I don’t need dialysis or a kidney.
Prayers are appreciated.
Thank you all for reading and following my story.

Picture 1 is the site where my tube enters my stomach into my peritoneal area. Picture 2 is the tube that I wrap up and tape up which allows the fluid to enter my body. Picture 3 is how I cover my site, which is vital to keeping it healthy and trying to avoid peritonitis. Just an update for now.

Well tonight I thought I’d just show you my dreaded scar from surgery to place my PD port and how I wrap my port to be as discreet as I can under my clothing. It’s really hard to accept that these are things I will look at the rest of my life, the scar atleast. I am hopeful that one day my PD port with just be another scar and I’ll have an added scar for my kidney. I’ll take all the scars for a normal life again any day. But anyway, just so you get an idea....

This is part of my nightly routine. I load my fluid. Turn on my dialysis machine. Put the cassette in and hook up all my tubes to their according places. I have a drain line also that I hook into a 5 gallon bucket. But, anyway, the machines walks me through it step by step. So, this is it on photos. Stay tuned for a video tomorrow night.

My name is Brandi Mullins, I am 33 years old (as of recent). I have 3 children, Noah who is 13, Eden who is 9, and Lake who is 4. I just recently started dialysis in March. I chose to do home peritoneal dialysis. This has already been quite a long journey, atleast to me it has been. I became inactive on University of Kentucky transplant list in November and became active in March. I got the call on my birthday that I am now officially on the University of Cincinnati transplant list also. So, that is always exciting. I have 99-100 antibodies which means I am a hard match to find a kidney for. Nonetheless, I moved to a priority because of it. So, that is just an introduction, I will post bits and pieces from time to time so that you will eventually know my back story all the way up to present day. Thank you all for your support.
