Looks like someone was caught holding a treasured cookie jar!

This piece of Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center history goes back quite a few years. A wonderful gentleman known as Jay “Cookie Man” Thompson had a reputation of dutifully volunteering at the Center and offering his homemade chocolate chip cookies to the children as they left. Even though I never personally met him, his legacy carried on long after his passing in 2009 with this cookie jar where treats of various kinds were kept and given out as rewards. His memory was also honored through stories of his warm presence and generous nature. Now, his daughter, Ruth (pictured), has graciously retrieved this treasured gem to keep it in the family for generations to come.

At the Center, we strive to build strong connections with our families and the community around us. Whether that means additional service providers who work with our clients, extended family members, or even connections with former Scottish Rite Masons, we are honored to have a vast network of caring and dedicated people who are invested in the work we do. Communication is relational! And cookies sweeten our shared time together, don’t they?

We are thrilled to announce that this week we welcomed Marilyn Collins to our team as the new Executive Director! She has come to us as a seasoned educator from Henrico County Public Schools where she devoted years of her professional career gaining experience working with children in a special education setting. Her deep compassion for children and enthusiasm for the Center are already filling the atmosphere around here.
