Jack's Summer Scholars Program in Pediatrics

Jack's Summer Scholars Program in Pediatrics The Jack Cary Eichenbaum Neonatology Summer Scholar Program located at New York University School of Medicine was the birthplace for JACK!.

JACK’s Summer Scholar's Program in Pediatrics is a Research and Mentoring Program at Virginia Commonwealth University's Division of Neonatology in the Department of Pediatrics and as the JCE Neonatology Summer Scholars Program at NYU in NYC. JACK’s Summer Scholar's Program in Pediatrics is a Research and Mentoring Program that provides undergraduate and medical students with the opportunity to view the “world” of Neonatology and Pediatric Medical and Surgical Subspecialties through clinical mentoring and research. Specific emphasis is placed on understanding multidisciplinary work in hospitals, and the medical career opportunities in Pediatrics subspecialty areas such as General Surgery, Administration, Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery and Infectious Diseases. The VCU Medical College of Virginia is the oldest medical school in Virginia and the largest public university to provide inpatient, outpatient and emergency care. The Division of Neonatology provides care and oversight to critically ill infants and infants of mothers at risk for early or complicated deliveries in conjunction with the Maternal Fetal Medicine Program. Medical and surgical specialist physicians are important to the care of the critically ill infant creating strong team collaborations within these subspecialties. The Division of Neonatology provides care at the VCU Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a Regional Perinatal Tertiary Center, designated to care for the highest level of patient acuity. Additionally, the NICU Team includes Neonatology Fellows, Pediatricians who are Neonatologists in training, Neonatal Nurses, specialty trained to care for critically ill and premature infants; Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, Infant Development Specialists, Infant and Family Psychologists, Respiratory Therapists, Social workers, Neonatal Occupational and Physical Therapists. The JCE Program continued to provide a summer experience for undergraduate and medical students in NYC.
