disAbility Law Center of Virginia The disAbility Law Center of Virginia or dLCV is the designated Protection and Advocacy organization of Virginia.

Our vision is a Commonwealth free of legal barriers for individuals with disabilities. The disAbility Law Center of Virginia (“dLCV”) advocates for and protects the legal rights of persons with disabilities. We do this through education, training, the promotion of self-advocacy skills for people with disabilities, and through information and referral services. We also provide direct advocacy services in particular cases that fall within our Strategic Goals and Focus Areas.

TODAY is Election Day! If you are voting in-person today, remember:

1. Bring a photo ID! This can be a driver's license, passport, or Virginia ID card. If you don't have an ID, you can also sign an ID statement and still vote
2. If you cannot go inside to the polling location, you CAN vote curbside from your vehicle
3. Ask for help if you need it! You can request assistance from a poll worker at your voting location or bring someone you trust to help you.

After you vote, make sure you share your experiences at https://www.dlcv.org/voting-rights to help ensure Virginia's polls are accessible to all!

Happy Halloween!🎃👻

This year, we wanted to share our TOP 3 Halloween accessibility tips!

1. Explain your treats - Consider explaining the treats that you are handing out to children and place the goodies at eye level. Some trick-or-treaters may have a difficult time seeing or hearing what they are getting. Understanding what you are offering also informs children and families of any allergens

2. Choose an accessible location - When deciding where to set up your trick-or-treat station, make sure it is in an accessible and barrier-free location. You may want to hand out treats at the garage or driveway if there are barriers to your front door. Ensure that there are no decorations blocking the path and keep your station well-lit for those with low vision or mobility needs.

3. Communicate ahead of time - Let families and trick-or-treaters know beforehand of any surprises, loud noises, or other effects. Avoid using strobe lights which can trigger seizures for people with epilepsy. Loud noises and scary sound effects can be overstimulating for children with sensory processing difficulties and children with hearing-assistance devices

We at dLCV hope you all have a safe and joyful Halloween!

Today is the 23rd anniversary of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA)! HAVA was passed by the U.S. Congress on October 29, 2002 to make sweeping reforms to the nation's voting process.

It requires that all states implement the following new programs and procedures:
• Provisional Voting
• Voting Information
• Updated and Upgraded Voting Equipment
• Statewide Voter Registration Databases
• Voter Identification Procedures
• Administrative Complaint Procedures

dLCV helps to support this work in Virginia through our voting protection and advocacy programs. To learn more, check out our website and sign up to be a poll volunteer today! www.dlcv.org/voting-rights
