Meet Dr. Ryan D. Melchoir! In addition to his dedicated work at VCS, Dr. Melchoir serves as the Medical Director of the Chippenham Cath Lab. This year, he also partnered with Chesterfield County EMS and the Virginia State Police to review recent STEMI outcomes—critical cases in which a major heart artery becomes completely blocked. Effective, coordinated teamwork across emergency providers can make a life-saving difference in these moments.

Thank you, Dr. Melchoir, for your leadership and commitment to exceptional cardiac care!

Behind every testimonial is a real story — and we’re honored to be part of it. Grateful for patients who remind us why we do what we do.

Full testimonial: "Had my ablation today after working through 1.5 years of being in AFib since my triple bypass surgery in Late July of 2024. Dr. Basyal recognized the issue, as did his colleague Dr. Onufer, who retired in late June of 2024. Dr. Onufer had to call the insurance company and appeal my denial. With increased possibility of a stroke, he was seriously infuriated with them as they denied his request. Then Dr. Basyal took over, and he got it approved with my insurance company. Dr. Basyal was terrific and very understanding. Great bedside manner, which is a gift, and explained things a layman could understand. I am very impressed, since I have seen a lot people get frustrated with their healthcare physician. Though new to the group, I highly recommend Dr. Basyal." - David N.

Full Testimonial: The staff was pleasant and professional. I was greeted promptly before I could even sign in. I experienced the same treatment when checking out. The staff assisted me immediately. The PA that I saw (Parker) was definitely concerned about my care. She addressed all of my concerns. -Joyce E.

❤️ Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is the #1 cause of heart-related deaths in the U.S.—and one of the most preventable.

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) happens when plaque builds up in the arteries that carry blood to your heart.
Over time, that buildup limits oxygen and increases your risk for heart attack or heart failure..

Know the risk factors:
➡️ High blood pressure
➡️ High cholesterol
➡️ Smoking
➡️ Diabetes
➡️ Sedentary lifestyle
➡️ Family history of heart disease

Watch for warning signs:
💢 Chest pain or pressure
🫁 Shortness of breath
🩶 Or no symptoms at all until a heart attack occurs

Start protecting your heart today — eat well, move more, and get regular checkups. Your heart will thank you. 💪❤️

❤️ Heart Disease Symptoms in Women
Did you know women often experience different warning signs than men? While men may feel chest pressure, women are more likely to notice vague symptoms such as:

⚠️ Jaw or back pain
⚠️ Nausea or vomiting
⚠️ Sweating
⚠️ Dizziness
⚠️ Marked fatigue

Women are also more affected by stress and depression — making heart disease harder to diagnose.

👉 Don’t ignore the signs. Know your risk, listen to your body, and talk to your doctor.
