Getting back into an exercise routine doesn’t have to mean going all in on day one. The key is starting small and staying consistent. Even a short daily walk, light stretching, or a quick workout can help rebuild strength, boost energy, and support heart health.

If you’ve fallen out of your routine, don’t worry—every step forward counts. Set realistic goals, listen to your body, and focus on progress, not perfection. Your future self (and your heart) will thank you. ❤️

The faster we act, the more hearts we save. ❤️

Dr. Nayef Abouzaki spoke to the The Richmond Ambulance Authority on behalf of VCS and HCA Virginia Health System Chippenham Hospital — because what happens before a patient reaches our doors matters just as much as what happens inside them.

From spotting a heart attack early to making smart treatment decisions in the field, the RAA team is on the front lines of cardiac care every single day. Dr. Abouzaki also shared what makes Chippenham uniquely equipped to take it from there.

Key takeaways for EMS teams included:

✅ Act fast and alert early

✅ Know when to hold back on treatment

✅ Every second counts

Thank you Richmond Ambulance Authority for the opportunity to talk with your team. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with you in providing the best heart care for our community! 💙

A little late to post, but never late to celebrate! 💚☘️ The VCS team went green this Tuesday for St. Patrick's Day — and we're lucky that Dr. Gilligan brought his Irish charm all the way from the Emerald Isle to keep hearts beating in perfect rhythm. He's made a career of keeping hearts in rhythm, and this week that rhythm was very Irish. 🎶❤️

❤️ When was the last time you checked your heart health?

Heart disease often develops silently—but early screening can help identify risk before symptoms appear.

At Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists, our Preventive Cardiology and Wellness program helps patients understand their cardiovascular risk and create a personalized plan for heart health.

Preventive care may include:

• Advanced screenings such as CT heart scans
• Cholesterol and cardiovascular risk assessments
• Guidance on lifestyle changes that support heart health
• A personalized prevention plan from cardiovascular specialists

Our goal is simple: help patients prevent heart disease—not just treat it.

❤️ Is it safe to have heart rhythm procedures outside of a hospital?

It’s a question many patients ask. The answer depends on the experience of the physicians, the safety standards of the facility, and careful patient evaluation.

At Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists, many electrophysiology (EP) procedures are performed in our accredited cardiovascular ambulatory surgery center (ASC), designed specifically for heart rhythm care.

For patients, that often means:

• A calmer, more comfortable setting
• Shorter wait times and predictable scheduling
• Expert care from board-certified electrophysiology specialists
• 99%+ of patients going home safely the same day

Our program was recently featured in the national cardiology publication EP Lab Digest, which recognized the development of our electrophysiology program. But what matters most is the safe, compassionate care our patients experience every day.

Many people are surprised to learn some heart procedures can safely be done outside a hospital. Did you know this?

Full Testimonial: My first visit to the Bell Creek office. Check-in went very smoothly. I always try to do check in online and that really helps. I saw Dr. Mishra. He is attentive, easy to understand, and creates a patient dialogue not a monologue. I felt like we were working as a team. I appreciated the time that he spent with me and did not feel rushed. Thank you for a great first visit. - Deborah S.

Pause for a moment 🌊
Press play and let the sound of the ocean guide your breathing.
Inhale. Exhale.

Taking even a few slow, intentional breaths helps calm the nervous system, lower stress hormones, and reduce tension in the body. Over time, managing stress supports heart health by helping regulate blood pressure and heart rate.

Give yourself this moment to breathe, reset, and care for your heart.

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Robert Sperry, who was recently honored with the dedication of the Cath Lab & Robert Sperry, MD Electrophysiology Lab.

As one of the first cardiac electrophysiology fellows trained at MCV Hospitals, Dr. Sperry became the first dedicated cardiac electrophysiologist at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in 1994. Over 25 years, he helped build and grow the hospital’s EP program, introduced advanced procedures, and contributed to major clinical trials that shaped heart rhythm care.

Known for his calm presence, humor, and deep compassion for patients, Dr. Sperry leaves a lasting impact on our team and community. His legacy lives on in the program he built and the countless lives he touched. 💙
