Keeping an eye on small signs can make a big difference in your child’s dental health. 🦷

Tooth sensitivity, bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, or changes in how your child eats can all be signals that it’s time for a dental check-up. Catching concerns early helps keep growing smiles healthy and prevents small issues from becoming bigger ones.

If you notice any of these signs, consider scheduling a visit with the team at Richmond Dentistry for Children to keep your child’s smile strong and healthy.

Baby teeth may be small, but they play a big role in your child’s health. 🦷

Because baby teeth have **thinner enamel than adult teeth**, cavities can develop much faster. Even small amounts of plaque or sugar sitting on teeth can lead to early decay if it isn’t cleaned away.

A few simple habits can make a big difference:
• Start brushing as soon as the first tooth appears
• Use a small smear of fluoride toothpaste
• Avoid letting milk or juice sit on teeth for long periods
• Schedule regular dental check-ups early

Healthy baby teeth help children chew, speak clearly, and guide permanent teeth into the right place.

If your child hasn’t had their first dental visit yet, now is a great time to schedule one!

Little hands need a helping hand 🪥💜

Young children don’t yet have the coordination to brush thoroughly—especially along the gumline and those hard-to-reach back teeth. That’s why parents should help (and supervise) brushing until kids can tie their shoes confidently, usually around age 6–8.

Starting early:
✨ Helps prevent cavities
✨ Builds healthy lifelong habits
✨ Keeps smiles strong and happy

Make brushing a team effort—brush together, then let them “practice” at the end!

We look beyond teeth — because how your child breathes can impact their oral health and development. 👶🦷

If your child is breathing through their mouth, especially during sleep, you may notice:
• Dry lips or a dry mouth in the morning
• Snoring or restless sleep
• Ongoing mouth breathing day or night

Chronic mouth breathing can reduce saliva, which plays a key role in protecting teeth and gums. Over time, this may increase the risk of cavities, gum irritation, and changes in jaw or facial growth.

Our pediatric dental team is trained to spot early signs and help guide families toward supportive care when needed — all in a kid-friendly, compassionate environment.

🪥 Twice a day, every day—no shortcuts!
Morning and bedtime brushing are key to preventing cavities and plaque buildup. Younger kids still need a helping hand to make sure brushing is thorough, especially before bed.

💜 A strong routine today = healthier smiles tomorrow.
Need brushing tips by age? We’re happy to help!

Mouth breathing isn’t just a sleep habit — it can impact your child’s dental health, too 😴🦷

Dry mouth can increase the risk of cavities and even affect how jaws and teeth develop over time. If you’ve noticed snoring, dry lips, or frequent open-mouth breathing, it may be worth having it checked.

Healthy smiles start with healthy habits 💜
