Relaxation and Tension: two sides of the same coin 🪙

Tension is strength and power.

Relaxation is speed, endurance, and flexibility.

Life and sport demand both.

Maximize both extremes.

Slow lifts or "grinds" are performed with dynamic tension.

Tension = Force

Mastery of relaxtion is a hallmark skill of elite athletes.

Practice staying fast and loose in between efforts.

Active recovery drills are performed between sets of strength training and involve light, full-body movements like shaking out the limbs ("shaking off water"), light hopping, or twisting the torso ("washing machine").

They aid recovery by helping the nervous system and muscles transition quickly from a state of high tension (during the set) to deep relaxation.

This decongests the muscles, restores circulation, and prepares the body for the next maximal effort.

train the Go muscles!
Jump higher, faster, hit harder

This picture shows you many of the at work during a "triple extension variation" where the extends the hips, knees, and ankles at the apex of the swing. What they don't show you, is that your feet need to be flat and the hips and knees must flex in the receiving (backswing) phase. That's where your backside (posterior) muscles are stretched. Strength, Endurance and Flexibility all in one. The Swing reigns supreme!

The conversation in my head 🧠🗣🧠

The core idea is that while the first thought is an involuntary reaction, the responsibility lies in the choice made in the second thought and the subsequent action.

This concept emphasizes that initial thoughts are not something one can always control, but one can control how they react and what they choose to do next.

Your first thought is a reaction, possibly influenced by instinct, biases, or past experiences, and is not something you are necessarily responsible for.

The power lies in your second thought, which is the conscious decision to either dwell on the initial thought or to reframe it.

Your first action is a result of that second thought and is a definitive choice that you are accountable for.

The quote highlights that while you can't always control your initial thoughts, you can control your response to them.

Attributes to figures like Mel Gibson, and Mike Malloy...whom they may have learned this mantra from Seneca.
