Edward Church in Richmond, VA became twinned with Holy Family Parish in Cerca Carvajal, Haiti as part of a partnership between the Diocese of Richmond and the Diocese of Hinche. The goal was to build long-lasting, culturally diverse, faith-based relationships between Haitian and American Catholics. Holy Family has a parish school with about 900 students, a newly reconstructed church, and a medical clinic with a doctor, dentist, midwife, and lab tech. Through the unique twinning relationship that bonds the two parishes together, we have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our family members in Cerca Carvajal and in Richmond. When we serve others (like the poor of Holy Family) we are really serving Jesus. Mathew 25:35-40

Raising Haiti Foundation supports the "Tree Currency Program" in two rural communities. Farmer-members receive credits, or "tree currency", for tree planting and maintenance. With these credits, they can receive organic crop seed, tools, and agricultural training, among other services. The program is implemented by the Smallholder Farmers Alliance and promotes both sustainable agroforestry and community socioeconomic development.

A record 4.7 million Haitian people are facing acute hunger, with 1.8 million now at an emergency level of malnutrition.

For the first time thousands of Haitians are suffering level 5 hunger – the WFP’s highest alert level and one often reserved for wartime famine.

Thank you so much for all the support you have given us over the past two weeks. This latest round of civil unrest is like nothing we have seen before. While Hinche has remained relatively free of violence, we have not escaped the barricades and road blocks that are paralyzing the country.
Gas is now over $30 a gallon; it costs us over $500 to fill our vehicles. Prices on durable goods have tripled and our birth center construction has slowed dramatically. Hinche is cut off from the rest of Haiti and food and water are scarce There is no way to move about the town. We have cancelled both classes and clinics to be safe, and because we have no extra fuel.

So far our staff is safe.

Please keep us and our beneficiaries in your heart as we devote ourselves even more fully to this important work. As always, it is the mothers and babies who are suffering the most under these conditions.

The deadly novel coronavirus is so prevalent in Haiti, where a fever has been raging for weeks, that a top authority on public health is now saying there’s no need to test anymore to declare that someone is infected.
