I believe that the work I do with people has tremendous value. Not because I *think* it does but because what those who have worked with me have shared about what the work has changed, allowed for, and expanded in their lives.
I also believe that many people are doing valuable and important work in this space within the world. And I do not mean to suggest that anyone is not worth what they are charging.
But I AM questioning it.
*Value* isn’t a simple, fixed thing.
Value is subjective.
Value has become confused with quantity of money.
More money = more value
But I’m so, so tired of that of that oversimplified, distorted belief.
Yes, I have worked hard, received a ton of formal and informal training and education, and endlessly invested in my own growth, self-discovery. And that is worth something. What I offer as a result of all of that, is worth something.
And also yes, my family needs my financial contribution to sustain it. Those are real needs.
But I no longer want to participate in the hyper-valuing-to-the-point-of-complete-inaccessibility of life coaching, self-discovery & self-development work, avenues to holistic wellness/wellbeing & spiritual understanding.
So, while I can’t make it free, I hope that the flexibility of a sliding-scale option will make what I offer more available. And that will, in turn, become a greater contribution to a world I hope to live in; one I somehow still hope is possible.
