Team Member Spotlight ✨

Meet Chris Johnson, a Local Account Representative at Starmark serving Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and West Virginia.

Chris recently transitioned into this regional role after serving as the Richmond Service Center Director. In that position, he helped establish Starmark’s local service center and worked to build strong relationships with Funeral Professionals in the area. Now in his 13th year with Starmark, Chris was originally introduced to the company by a close friend and began building products on the floor, an experience that played a major role in developing his extensive product knowledge. Over the years, he has built lasting relationships with customers he now considers friends. For Chris, those relationships are the most meaningful part of the work.

He values being part of a team focused on helping Funeral Professionals support families during some of life’s most difficult moments. Building trust and being a dependable resource are central to his approach.

Outside of work, Chris is known as the company sports enthusiast. He follows nearly every sport and has coached girls AAU and high school basketball for over a decade. He also holds a second-degree black belt in K*k Sool Won and is a two-time national champion.

Meet Cindy, one of our dedicated Account Representatives at Starmark. After a year on the team, Cindy reflects on what drew her to Starmark: its reputation as a long-standing, family-owned company and its commitment to building lasting relationships with Funeral Professionals.

Working closely with her accounts, Cindy supports efficient operations and dependable service. She is especially proud of helping funeral homes transition to our local White Glove Service. By introducing delivered pricing and more flexible ordering options, she has helped customers simplify workflows and operate with greater confidence each day.

Cindy values being part of a team that cares about doing things the right way. She enjoys collaborating across departments to solve challenges, improve service, and ensure Funeral Professionals feel supported at every step. Through her role, she has developed a deeper understanding of the operational side of Funeral Service, from logistics and product specifications to timing and inventory management. She has also strengthened her ability to balance professionalism, empathy, and efficiency.

Outside of work, Cindy enjoys reading, exploring different forms of artistic expression, discovering new genres on streaming platforms, taking coastal road trips, and spending quality time with her family.

Cremation has transformed the business model. Over the past several decades, Starmark has listened to Funeral Professionals to understand how families are responding. We examined service offerings, highlighted effective strategies and challenges, and identified where minor adjustments can significantly improve both the family experience and firm outcomes.

According to the Cremation Association of North America, the cremation rate in 2005 was about 32.4%, increased to 48.6% in 2015, and reached 61.8% in 2024, making cremation the overwhelming choice for families. As cremation rates continue to increase, there is a growing opportunity to further evolve how cremation-choosing families are supported through thoughtful presentation, merchandising, and planning. Funeral Professionals’ offerings should adapt to reflect this shift.

When cremation is treated as an afterthought, families leave confused about their choices. With intention, structure, and confidence, cremation-choosing families can be provided with a meaningful and well-guided farewell.

We are pleased to introduce Starmark’s new educational series, Cremation Has Arrived. It is no longer the future; it is the present. Together, we look forward to evolving funeral service practices for the better.
